Bladder issues and artificial sweetners
I posted this on the main and men's message boards, but was wondering if someone on here might know anything.
I was wondering if anyone else was having bladder issues
caused by artificial sweeteners like Crystal Light?
I get like a spasm, a real sudden urge to go. I pee with full force and alot comes out. I've had my prostate checked 3 times this year and it is fine. My urologist prescribed something for an over active bladder, but it's not really helping. One of the women at group said something about artificial sweeteners are a bladder irritant.
Any thoughts?

Hi Rich,
I didn't think I had any issues with them but my gastroenterologist had me change to Stevia in the Raw. He said it is easier to digest and acts more like regular sugar. These sweetners can cause different issues for everyone. I have a friend that seems drunk, if she has anything that has splenda in it...try switching to stevia and see if it helps you, worth a try...have a good night...Laurie

Thanks for your questions and answers. I dismiss too many things and really haven't been a person to check out things so you really help me. I've been using artificial sweeteners for many years and basically can tolerate them all but would like to save myself any future problems. Don't recognize any signs of bladder problems but I might change to stevia.

I try to avoid the sweeteners. Splenda - causes skin reaction in me. Bad one. Nutra sweet - aspartame - gives me wicked migraine headaches.
I try and most of the time use natural sweeteners - stevia, Erythritol.
I research and I think saccharine is the less "reactive" and I sue that if I need when out and want a cup of coffee.

This is a great subject as I am fearful of my consumsion of this sweetner but have not been able to move away from it. I often tell my husband if I get a brain tumor it's going to come from the amount of Equal and Sweet n Low.
I drink several 34 ounces of tea a day and use 3 equals and 3 sweet n lows per drink. ARG! I know they say it's safe and we would have to consume a ton to have health issues but as we get older it adds up.
Need more long term research info....
