Hello - I need your help!

Dear friends,

This is my first post to BOTT.  I had RNY in September 2010.  I went from 298 to 208 between September and December.  Since December I've struggled to stay on a decent eating plan and any kind of fitness plan.  I've regained 30 pounds.

When I got down to 208, I had body image issues because I didn't like the way the skin under my chin looked.  (Turkey neck.)  I was so close to being under 200 for the first time in 25 years I think that scared me too.  (Weight was always a way I could hide myself from others.)

Well, I've got to get my act together.  I appreciate reading your posts and suggestions.  I ask for your help.  Please pray for me, give me guidance on how to quit my carb addiction, kick my butt to get me into an exercise routine.

Thank you for supporting me.

Hello,
I am nearly 7 years out and never made it to a" weight" goal. My lowest was 187; I am up again 10 pounds but it is coming off again slowly. I have made it to my "activity" goal which is running, hiking, swimming in public etc... My point is that I do not feel I am an" expert" but will offer a few words of wisdom for you; do not give up, the next day is always a chance for a "do-over" you can do this!.
Pick one thing you will work on tpomorrow; 8 glasses of water, no white carbs, a 10 minute walk around the block. You have to look at this process like eating an elephant; one bite at a time. Some people do a carb purge; 5 day...?? I am drawing a blank on the exact name. I did it once, it was hard but it did help. Find an activity you like, find an exercise buddy. Is there a local support group? Are you still seeing your surgeon; does his office have any resources for you?
As many people point out the surgery was on your stomach not your brain, keep working on whatever it is that is making you sabotage your weight loss attempts.
Good luck; you got this and you can do this, just keep at it.

Mary - thank you for your support and inspiration.  I decided to start the south beach diet to give up carbs for 2 weeks. I can make it two weeks!  After that it will be whole wheat/grains.  I've lost three pounts!  I also am taking an afternoon walk at work for about 10 minutes.  Little things can make a difference.  I truly appreciate your support.

Hi Metal Mom
Welcome to BOTT.  There are almost 2500 of us that are needing to get back on track!  Many of us are in your shoes.  We are all trying to reach a goal.  I am weighing myself every day and if I am over 146 lbs. I am going to eat only protein, healthy fats and veggies.  I am definitely eating fewer calories since I started doing that.  I scrubbed 2 windows today and it took an hour or 300 calories (OH activity).  It will make you happier if you get on board.  Welcome!  Just me

Dear Just you -  - Thank you for letting me know I'm not alone.  I'm also starting to eah only protein, healthy fats and veggies.  That sounds like the first 2 weeks on South Beach - which I decided to start this past weekend.  Thanks for your motivation!

Welcome MetalMom!

We can all relate to your struggle.  It takes time to look at your body and accept the changes.  I still do a double take!!  And there are parts that I do not like but I feel so much better overall!  For me, it is better to be older with wrinkles than older with unhealthy fat puffing up my wrinkles.  I am still a work in progress.  I have recently started the Somersize diet or rather eating plan.  It has the structure that I need.  It gives me the good carbs and not the white carbs that I gained on.   You need to find what works best for you and what you can live with for the long run.

We are all in this together.....Dee

Hi Dee - thanks for your note.  I've had such an emotional attachment to food all my life and keeping weight on was a way to hide myself from people.  I really have to get over that, learn to love my body with all its wrinkles, and plan to live to a ripe old age!  I'll look into the Somersize diet.  Thanks for the tip!
