Getting Back on Track

I received a band on Aug 4, 2009.  I was doing real good until the first part of 2011. Unfortunately things happened that I couldn't control.  But, writing this I think I could have made better choices, but, at the time, I discovered liquid food. It was easier to drink one of those "evil" coffee drinks or a shake, running back and forth between the hotel and hospital.  After my mom passed there was a darkness that came over me.  I don't know if it was because now both my parents had passed, so now who was I? Then one day on my email there was a note, concerning the anniversary of my surgery.   They wanted to know how things were, I told them. They told me about "Back on Track". They cared. So, I could continue to sit on the couch or not. I jumped off the couch and kicked off the bunny slippers and here I am. I took stock of who I was, a wife (married 40 years in September), mother of 3 and grandmother of 5.  I want to be here for my family, especially for my husband. Thank you the 2 Kathys for caring.     debbi

Welcome Debbi...

We are all here for the same purpose.  It is not easy to face the challenges each day but it is something we all have to do.  Please let me know if there is any way I can help you.  By helping you, I help myself.

Please keep posting....

Hi Debbi
I like this group.  I too am starting today.  I have almost 60 lbs. to lose so I'll be here a lot for the next year or so.  Most importantly I have been telling myself all day that I can do this.  I am eating low carb because I have less of an appetite when I eat protein, healthy fats and veggies.  Good luck to you,  Just me

Debbi,
sorry for your loss. August is the anniversary month of both of my parnts deaths; 16 years ago for my mom and 14 years ago for my dad. It is odd once both parents pass away but comforting that they are together again.
You can do this; one day at a time! We all could of made better choices in the past, but we can only work in the present so let those thoughts  go.

thank you, everyone for your kind responses. Today is day 2: its hard because I travel with my husband and staying at hotels can be difficult.  In the future it will take lots of planning.  They provide a small breakfast and light evening meal here for us.  So, this morning I need have the eggs, a little instant oatmeal, and a few strawberries.  At lunch, that was funny.  I ordered a good hamburger, off the bun, with the lettuce and tomato on the side and then I asked if they had any light salad dressing.  They had a light italian which I sprinkle over the meat  and lettuce, tomato.  I gave a short list to my husband to pick up while he was out.  I have a question to ask, sometimes when we are on the road, what about having one of those SlimFast or Special K protein drinks, especially for breakfast, since I'm not much of a breakfast person?
Molly, I noticed you are from the Chicago area, my parents were from Harvey.  Some of the families are still in the area, but its been years since I was back. My dad was in the Air Force and I remember going "home" was always something that we did, and my grandmother would have everyone there waiting for us.  Thanks again for the support, I can use all the help and ideas I can get.
