Hi everyone,
I am curious if anyone else has ever dealt with iron deficient anemia? any fast cures? I had iron infusion treatments before and it brought my levels back up- it seems when the levels go this low- pills are not going to be a quick cure......I think my ferritin is at 2 and overall iron 16......feel like the world is racing by at the moment while i sit on the sidelines.....any advice is appreciated

Hi Sabrina, yes I have iron infusions every 3 months for maintenance.  I just don't absorb enough from the pills themselves.  I used to have them much more often when my iron was completely bottomed out, now I seem to be more level .
Be sure you are taking all of your other supplements too, having those crash at the same time is just hell!  Wishing you the very best, you will feel better soon but you will have to be diligent in the future. Lisa

Thank you so much for your reply Lisa- sometimes it feels as though im going through this all alone so I really welcome any advice or information about others. I am now dealing with Kaiser - I had another insurance before and my surgeon- Dr Patrick Coates is not Kaiser related so this makes this process even more painstaking trying to find someone who truly understands how to deal with Gastric Bypass patients. This is the second year I have had this low level- back in 08 I had the infusion treatments and it seemed to last awhile. I am going to insist that he gives it to me- last year he said to take pills- that didnt work when my levels were this low.....well I hope everyone else is having a good day :)

I was trying to get the levels us when my ferritin dropped to 10.  But after 1.5 years - that did not work, So this year I  got the infusions. (just finished)

I think the problem is to find a doc who will send you to a specialist - my PCP told me to take pills.. while my surgeon - sent me to hematologist to get infusions.  Hematologist believed me when I told him what I have been taking, how much and how long. He concluded that simply I do not absorb iron taken by mouth. Find a doc to get infusions.
