Back On Track Together
Kidney stones and WLS
I had my weight loss surgery over 10 years ago. (Bilio-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch). I started developing kidney stones about 4 years ago. Just last week on Fathers day, I ended up in the ER and a 4 day hospital stay with sepsis, extremely low potassium, and a stone that was blocking the kidney. I have had three surgeries to remove stones in the last 4 years. I am sick and tired of having to go through this not to mention, the bout with the sepsis could have killed me.
Does anyone have any suggestions that have worked for them in preventing stones from coming back? I have vowed to drink cranberry juice everyday, drink more water and be more mindful of eating higher oxalate foods. The doctor gave me an RX for potassium citrate but I quit taking it because it was very hard on my stomach.
Whatever suggestions that have worked for others would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Shotzi

di dthey ever find out what stones you had?
Some stones can be created du to high calcium intake. What calcium are you taking? and what magnesium? do you even take magnesium?
Calcium may noit be able to be incorporated in the bones when other minerals, and vitamins are missing. That will end in in organs, i.e. in kedneys - and may fom stones.
We need app 50% of magnesium (1:2 ratio mag : cal), and we need enough D3, and vit K2 to build bones, We also need boron, vanadium, etc... microelements. When the balance is not there - the body need to get rid of extra calcium
Depends on the stones - and what minerals are they build from - there may be different treatments available.
There are some stones that can be disolved (or they can be prevented from forming) while others - may be more difficult to deal with.
