Hi Hala...I love the idea of a Lent challenge. I am having difficulty coming to terms with the rules of fasting in my church. We are supposed to fast from all meat, dairy, and fish (except on certain days). I love to do the strict fast, it gives me a spiritual purpose. I started it when Lent began (with some revisions- allowed myself dairy and fish because I am a diabetic). Well, a couple of days ago I realized I cannot re-committ myself to losing weight (6 yrs out and still 75 lbs from goal) and do this fast. Too many carbs...even with beans and legumes.  So I am struggling with the sense of "loss" (not being able to do the fast- ie. I feel conflicted and awfully guilty if I eat meat...EVEN though the church says I am exempt due to illness) and at the same, I am trusting that God is by my side and will fight my battle with me. In a way, going back to basics by eating protein, but in small amounts, and cutting out garbage food, should really be a way to fight gluttony and the temptation to make food- and lots of it- my primary concern. So pray for me, since I am trying to reconcile myself with the fact that I cannot fast the way I am used to, and that I have to think outside the box during Lent.

(HUGS)... I understand... But the way I see it - God is our father ... who loves us and wants us to be happy and healthy... and if that mean that you get the proteins you need... and maintain your weight or even lose it - then he will be happy for you.   And he will smile at you from above. Trust me.  The church is an institution.  And as such - has rules and regulations,,, But as you said it - there are exemptions... so try to say a prayer when you do eat proteins... and move on.

I do try to abstain from meat products on Fridays... but fish and dairy are allowed. (catholic).  Eggs are OK too.  So I try to do that.  If nothing else- protein shakes - whey - but you can try soy (I hate soy) or any other protein made from plants (they have pea protein, hemp, etc).
Good luck... Try not to be too harsh on yourself... HE would not want you to do that... it is about enlightenment and meditation... and not guilt and stress... HE loves you....and just give it up to him your struggles...

Bless... Hala
