My protein levels have been low, so I have been eating more to consume more protein. My levels are back up and I'm doing good, but in the process, I have gained 5 pounds. I need to keep my protein at about 125-150 grams a day without going over 1,200 calories a day. Any suggestions? I still want to lose more weight. This is just a small setback, but I'm still frustrated and I'm feeling like I'm failing myself and my surgery.........any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Hi Lisa,

I recommend checking your carbs and eliminate and eat veggies instead.  Make sure protein is low fat.  Fish and egg beaters are very low in fat.  If you like protein shakes.  Chicken breast.

I also recommend checking with your WLS nutritionist or program.  They are very helpful when it comes to weight gains.  Get ideas from your support group also.  5 pounds is a good point to check yourself.

Keep up the good work!

I understand your problem.  I have a similar problem.  When I eat to lose weight my blood sugar drops.  I found my meter from fall 2008 and was looking at my numbers.  27, 29, 50s, 60s etc.  I felt like I was on an emotional roller coaster as it went up and down all day.  I ended up giving up and eating and gaining weight in 2009.

I started eating fish and veggies to lose weight and keep the blood sugar steady.

Last winter I saw an endocrinologist's dietitian at my clinic.  She helped me a lot.  I wish I had taken my meter in and saw her in 2008 before giving up.

I think you should make an appointment to see a good RD.  If you need to see a couple different ones to find one you are comfortable with that is ok.

I don't think you are failing yourself or your surgery.  I think you might be eating too little and then too much.  Even I lose weight on 1500 calories when I am consistant.  I think a good RD can help you set up a plan to get your protein in and still lose weight.

I hope you don't let this setback get the better of you.  You have come too far and are doing great.  Let us know how things turn out.  Just me
