Believe you'll get better.

If you make an effort to do something every single day, no matter how awkward you are at the start, you'll get better at it. You have to. You couldn't walk when you first started out so long ago. Now you walk all the time. It's not a big deal.

It takes time and practice to establish new, healthier habits. But, have faith you will get better.

Action for the day: Be conscious today of the new habits you are creating and practice them.

Great thought Molly!  This morning when I woke up, I made a mental note to consider my choices for the day and not to react to the day but to be proactive.

I am almost 4 years post op, never quite got to my goal and gained weight in the last 7 months.  My doctor says it isn't as bad as I see it but it feels awful.  I have battled with vertigo since a concussion in February.  After many specialists, it is improving and I am just now able to safely get on my treadmill.  Now I am working on breaking the bad habits of comfort foods which really aren't comforting at all.  I am working at staying back on track.

Focusing on small victories helps.

This is my first post on the Back on Track forum although I have been a member.  I just was too ashamed that I never got to goal.  That shame is a lingering ghost of my morbidly obese days.  Hiding won't make it go away but accountability might....so, here I am

Welcome Katy!  Drop the shame.  It is holding you back.  You have nothing to be ashamed of.  Unfortuantely this is why many do not seek needed help.  Will not come back to support meetings because of shame.  Isolation is self destructive.  So good for you for posting.  The WLS we had will not solve all our problems and as you already know it does not fix our brains!

I hope you post more and go to a support meeting also.  I find these very helpful.

Katy-
You are not alone.  I am 4 years out today, never got close to goal and have kind of lost my way.

I am working hard to improve and get back to where I need to be.  I have been walking and or moving most days of the week and it helps my mood, which helps everything else fall into place quicker.

I have also forgotten to "take care of me" and am working hard on that also.

We CAN do it!!!!!  (I hope......)

Tell someone that you love them!

This is a good way to approach each day.

Think I am going to start setting aside a few minutes each morning and evening to write positive messages to myself-- especially in the evening when I normally lose focus and start messing up the great job I had done that day with regards to my diet.
