Back On Track Together
Starting Over---Need Advice
Hi. I have been a member of Obisity Help since just before my surgery 5 years ago, but have mostly lurked and read instead of participating.
In a nutshell, I am starting over after an initial weight loss of 75 lb. (never did get to goal) and over the past 2 years a weight gain of 25-30 lb. I have been following what I thought was good eating advice, but haven't lost any weight after being "good" for a week and a half.
Can anyone tell me how your diet is divided between fat, carbs and proteins. I am basically very high protiens, very low fat and moderate complex carbs. What am I doing wrong?

Hi Joni,
I am also new to BOTT but have been a member since before my surgery in 2005. I have gained about 90lbs since my goal of 165. Since joining BOTT I have lost about 20lbs. I find that the info that Cathy has for new members helped me go back to what my diet was after the surgery. Now i am obviously eating a lot more now than before but this is what worked for me.

I tried to follow this as much as possible with a little twicking. I like smoothies so I use strawberries with ice and my protein powder for breakfast and after the gym
I joined livestrong.com because I liked their points system (although i haven't been faithfully using it)
regular meals i keep to mostly chicken baked and fish with vegetables
i try to exercise 3 times a week cardio and weight training. I read exercise in the morning before meals is the best (I eat a fruit or something for energy), I am not good at staying on the treadmill for 30 min but i do it in increments of 10 min alternating with weight machines.
My cheating day is the day that I allow myself to get something that i really want. The rules are that it has to be on the day of my exercise, it has to be after I am done at the gym (metabolism is
up), as much as possible the contents have to be high in protein, and I watch the portion (just enough to satisfy my craving)
Most of all I try not to deprive myself!!!
Weight loss is personal and you have to find a way to incorporate changes in your everyday life that are not burdensome. I am losing slower but It works for me. I have gone down two dress sizes and I enjoy it. If I don't lose for a month but I maintain I am happy too.
I hope this helps!
