How many of you actually journal on a daily basis? Does it REALLY help with compulsive eating tendencies? How many of you have tried it and do you think it works?

It helps us see what we're really doing and how bad it is in calories... I don't journal every day anymore, but I do often do the cafe posting and a WDYE.  Most days I still journal.  The best deal is pre-planning and following the plan.  When I am too strict in cutting calories, oddly it will trigger a binge too many times.  Journaling it makes us face what we are doing in black and white, if you will.

If I was not journaling I would not be on track at all.  Even when I am OFF track and journal, the damage done is less because I keep writing it down.  I us myfitnesspal.com to journal my food and exercise on line.  It is wonderful.  But before that I used a tablet to journal food/exercise.  Let me know if you want to try myfitnesspal.com.  I will need your email address to send you an invite.

Ladies,

Thank you so much for your input.

I was thinking more in terms of writting about feelings rather than a food log.  You know, things that you're stressed about, agree about, things that we're scared of....that sort of stuff.  Is it really possible that writing about these things can help deal with our food triggers?

It helps me.  A lot.  When I start writing - and drinking water - I forget about the need to eat.
It helps a lot.
but - if I have a day that I am low on calories - I eat... lol...
Sometimes talking to a real close friend or a therapist - does a lot of good.. But - not just "*****ing" but doing a brainstorming - constrictive brainstorming.  What do I feel?, why do I feel like that? What a massage God (Lord, universe, total energy..or what ever you believe in)  is trying to teach you?
Our feelings are reactions to the real life occurrence.  2 people may feel differently about the same issue, so - learning how to deal - react to what is happening - is the key.
it is OK to be happy, sad, devastated, angry, furious... but - it is not OK to stuff that feelings with food.

What helped me with dealing with my emotions was a very simple book - "Four Agreements"  google that - or look in B&N.  You can read that when you get your coffee...

Yes, Yes, & Yes!!

I must add this to my daily routine.  I'm open to it.  Just need to get into the habit, which is sometimes the hardest part.

Thanks a bunch,
Lisa
