I have been there just a couple of months before. I also got so tired and depressed that just getting out of bed was a chore. exercise - what exercise? Just putting on my workout clothes and shoes made me very tired and ready for a nap.
I started reading - Google that - all I could find about iron deficiency.
i started taking the BA 60 mg iron - 2 x a day. make sure you take it away from anything - but the vit C.
i also started eating a lot of foods that are iron rich: liver, red meats (mid rare) greens, started drinking chlorophyll (chlorofresh -min - found in any health food store -1 oz 2 x a day - not that bad actually - chlorophyll is a blood builder) Cooks my meats and veggies in a cast iron pot and made sure that I took the iron when I ate meats.
Then talked to Andrea and she suggested heme iron - Proferrin - that works great for her - it raised her ferritin within 3 months - that carbonyl could not do. There are some mixed heme and non-heme iron in the market - CVS, Walgreen - Bifera. I took that for a while when i was waiting for my Profferin (they were out of stock) Also - went to natural health food store and look and bough some dessicated liver tablets (you swallow that - to add to minerals that my blood need).
After a 3-4 weeks on the protocol I can function now. Now it has been 3 -4 months and i stared feeling like myself again. i can even get up at 5:00am and be at yoga at 6:30...
Go to Andrea's website - (i think it is Vitagarden?) and check her battle with low iron. Good luck.
Most people do very well on Iron carbonyl - I did not - it hurt my pouch , I got cramps and pain, and constipation. Even though I felt it was helping - I switched to heme (expensive) so I would stop hurting...

THank you so much, for all the great tips! Sometimes a person can feel so alone....literally I feel like the life has been sucked completely out of me and well to be honest it makes it very hard to function...so I am willing to do everything I can to get in the iron. I had iv iron infusion in 2008 and now my surgeons NP suggested I go see a gastro doc so they can scope me to make sure I do not have a slow leak! ugh! scary thought....plus I have kaiser and wow its like looking for a needle in a haystack as to how to get a good doctor who truly understands all the ins and outs of this surgery! thank you again!
