Niacin Reaction -
Holy - crap- oly!!
I have been severely anemic so I decided to take some herbal liquid b complex vitamins. TWO seconds later, my face was BEET red and I felt like my skin was ON FIRE!! I thought I was having an allergic reaction! Praise God I work in a medical clinic. The MD on staff told me it was likely a Niacin reaction. I guess I need to be more careful. I forget we absorb EVERYTHING differently.

Just this week, I had an experience with niacin also!
It was very traumatic to say the least. I took a new herbal suppliment for energy and have taken herbal things in the past, I didn't think twice about it. Well...moments after I took the new herbal capsules, I began to feel nauseated so I went to lay down on my bed. I layed face down and within seconds, my face began feeling very hot...and then firey hot! My face, chest, arms were all on fire and itching like crazy....I thought I was going into some kind of alergic shock and I honestly thought I was dying! Plus...it was all happening so quickly...I knew if I was dying, there wasn't time to even get help! I ran into the kitchen and read the bottle...which explained that there may be some side effects for a few minutes! BINGO! Glad you are ok.

Some people believes that flashing is good - it opens the blood capillaries and allows for good circulation boost. Some take i to get the flash. They believe it opens the BV and prevents blockages....

I had tried those 5 hour energy shots and same reaction. Cold water didn't cool the fire on my skin. And when we researched the ingredients we fount that the Niacin was what caused it.
Never again. The flush and burn was instantly. I couldn't believe it. and yes BEET red is the flush color.

I know that niacin flush and burning sensation. At one point, my doc prescribed a medication that had a large amount of niacin. The minute I started looking beet red, I called and told them that I was having a reaction to the medicaiton. I had to ride it out. Nasty!!!
When I give instructions to patients, this is a reaction I do let them know may or may not happen. It was quite an experience! Good luck to you finding a supplement that doesn't give you "power surges".
