Victory over picky eater
Hi BOTTers,
My 11-year old son is such a picky eater. It has been very challenging and frustrating. I am not a Rachael Ray or Martha Stewart cook so when I've made something and he turns his nose up, it has been a stupid silly debate.
I had a brilliant mom moment - I won!! My son likes to cook. He would help me cook some things so I expanded our cooking experience to vegetables. I found a vegetable dish that had brocolli in it and had him help me. That did it. He helped me with everything in it (ownership) and at it. He actually had a regular size portion of it. I know it sounds silly but it was a mom moment!!
Seriously, I am very fortunate that both of my sons are of normal, healthy weight and I want that to continue. I was an overweight teenager and it was miserable. Watching Jamie Oliver's "Food Revolution" certainly helped in my cause with my son to eat healthy.
One of the greatest gifts I want to give to my sons is the gift of healthy eating and not being overweight, much less obese, in their lives.
BOTT POWER!!

Yeah for you sweety!!
That is soo amazing!!
My six year old is autistic and doesn't eat glutten or dairy. So getting healthy things for him to eat can be a challenge.
In our house no dessert if you don't eat your dinner. For him if he even samples something (at least a bite of every thing on his plate) then he can have his dessert.
Like you I am lucky that my childern are not obese and are active and happy! That is one of reasons that I wanted WLS, to be healthy and active for them and to enjoy them as they get older and keep more active.

That is a great idea! Ask him if he'd like to try some simple Chinese or Thai food--and then let him chose the menu and cook the whole thing (or help you cook it). I bet he'd eat things then that he'd never thought of! My kids wouldn't eat bean sprouts when I first introduced them, but I took them to a Chinese restaurant and made them eat with chopsticks; they were so busy trying to keep their fingers co-ordinated they didn't pay much attention to what they were eating!
