Back On Track Together
OK, I gotta get back on track.....
Next month will be 4 yrs with RNY. I have done fairly well. Tell me what you fine people think.
I started @ 390 in May 2006. I bottomed out at 211 at the lowest point and gravitated back to 218 where I stayed for some time. Last summer I got up to 228 and decided to hit it hard by watching what went into my mouth and in about 6 weeks I knocked that 10 lbs off.
Now I am at 238 and I again have started, what we hate, a diet. The Weigh****cher group meets at my work, and I think I will see how I do there. I did WW for years prior to my surgery, but I kept losing the first 50 lbs over and over again and simply grew tired of a handful of recipes / ideas. I don't care for veggies and that means what is left (meats / starches) is challeging.
My mode of work is one of the issues. I work in an office chair 50 hours a week. I do try to incorporate some cardio activity on a treadmeal most weekday mornings, but the weekends I am usually busy doing something else.
I live in SW Louisiana and I am not involved in any local support groups. I traveled 300 miles to HOU for surgery. I wished I had a peer locally that I could converse with and bounce ideas or troubles off of. Until then, I am sure you folks will listen to me.
Any ideas,
Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I'm glad you posted. The post you wrote could have been written by any one of us BOTTers.
Congratulations on your success. The inching up of the scale is very common to most of us. You are far enough post-op that around this time many people have experienced anywhere from a slight regain to more of a weight regain.
I regained 30 pounds a few years ago. Like you, I thought about what I could do. What I decided to do is to go back to what worked for me in the first placed when I lost my weight. I looked at what I currently was doing (grazing, drinking with meals, decreased and stopped exercising, and reconnected with junky carbs. When I made the comparison of what I was currently doing with what I did before to lose weight, it was a big DUH, no wonder.
I had returned (or at least revisited fairly frequently) the old habits that made me heavy. What I did is that I didn't do cold turkey on all of them but I picked one at a time. I stopped drinking with my meals and that made a big difference with my satiety. When I felt confident that I'd stopped that habit, I went to ditching the junky carbs, etc., etc. It took awhile as whenever we regain weight it is slower to relose but I did lose it again....and you will too. Just remember that you lost it once and you can AND WILL lose it again.
Are there any veggies that you like? Veggies are a wonderful nutritional bang for your calorie buck. They can provide satiety without stealing from your calorie bank. I didn't like them either but I have found some that I actually do and I went from there. I also use seasonings that I like. I use the Ranch seasoning at www.nomorenakedpopcorn.com. It is the seasoning that they have at many movie theaters for popcorn, but it is also great for veggies. I also use it on my chicken and fish too.
I'm glad you are using BOTT as your support group. This is a wonderful group of members. You could also start your own support group locally if you are interested. I'm the Director of OH's Support Group Leader Program. If you're interested, let me know at [email protected]. You are right, we will definitely listen to you. Feel free to e-mail me for any questions or support you need too.

i have regained about 75-80 lbs of my weight, I had RNY 10 years ago. I too joined WW but found its too much food for me and it allows me to stil make the wrong choices. I think if you eat more of the filling foods that is more in line with the basics of WLS, however I found coming here to BOTT i can see what others are doing and being successful and incorporate that into my own life.
Last week when I watched what I ate, and ate protein first, limited my carbs, sweets, etc, I lost 2 lbs. so I am going to keep going that route. I need to remember I still have a tool that was given to me and I need to use it the way intended.
Welcome to the group. You certainly have done very well and you are doing the right thing before more weight creeps on. You are doing something about it.

Welcome folks - you've come to the right place I hope you find this group as helpful as I have. I, too, gained 30-35 pounds about 2 yrs out. I could never have gotten back/stayed on track without their caring and support. In fact, I not only got back to my oridinal goal weight - I lowered my goal weight by 10 pounds and have been maintaining ever since. What I learned wa s that maintenance takes as much, maybe more, effort, planning, dedication and perseverence than losing. I have lost one of me - lost 110 pounds - weight 110 pounds. And I feel great!!!!!
Cathy has posted a great thread at the beginning of our discussion page about the guidelines. A wonderful source for what we may need to go back to doing.
Just remember - Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing and expecting different results. This may mean we have to develop some new food habits if the way we are eating isn't working. We didn't like being fat so pret ty much are going to have to change from limiting ourselves to the old ways of eating.
You might like to check out the Cario & Cafe thread. Usually we post our food plan for the day (today I have a VERY busy deal ahead so just posted the bottom line) We find it is an excellent way to hold ourselves accountably by planing, writing it down down, and staying compliant.
If you are comfortable, post often (like every day) and allow us to share your journey. Not only will we listen - we will care.
