Out of control

I know I'm doing the emotional eating thing and I keep doing it anyway. How do I overcome this? I just put away 1/2 can smoked oysters, some Wasabi almonds and about three Doritos!!!!!! I feel like I can't survive one more minute of my ****ty day without stuffing something in my mouth. My job has me on edge all the time and my luck in finding a new one just isn't that great. I don't know what to do at this point! I don't want to gain the weight back and I still have about 30lbs that I want to lose, but I feel so out of control! I'm nervous, sad, angry...just plain pissed off and on edge every second of every day and I know it's the stupid job! HELP!

Hi April, 1st of all congratulations from getting 30#'s from your weight goal.  Stress is a part of our everyday life, what I do is go for a walk or do some sort of excercise, not only will it give you energy you have time to get away and think about the situation. when I go to work I take all sorts of nutritional snacks so if I am tempted I can grab something on my plan and not just eat what is in front of me. When you emotionally eat don't beat yourself up just make a plan for the next time. Is ok we all mess up the thing is keep on going and make like a positive plan for the next time...

When you feel like that - just try to think why did you have the surgery in the first place.  What helps me - sometime s- is a hot cup of tea, or breathing. breath on on a count of 4 - hold on a count of 4 - breath out on a count of 4, hold on a count of 4.  Do that for a just few minutes (even in the bathroom) and see if that helps.

Hi April,

I can totally relate to how you're feeling.  I have days just like that, too.  First of all, just know that you are not alone.

These are some of the things I do to help me get though those moments:
 - Post on OH
 - Make a list of why you want to lose the weight or keep the weight off & review it over and over
 - Read the "back to basics" rules of WLS
 - Create a "To Do" list of things you've want to do and focus on those things

Take it one day at a time....

Lisa

I hear ya sister!  I've had jobs like that - it's the worst!  Try to spend some time every day looking for a new job.  Make your plan and get yourself outta there.

Try not to let the job make you fat.  The more they get to you the more frustrated you get and for some reason 'we' punish them by eating.  Guess who looses - not them.

When I'm in this place, and I usually am, I start by tracking my food intake.  It's the only thing that gives me a chance for making it through the day.

Can you take "smoke breaks" a 15 min break to leave the building with a 16 oz water, walk 6 minutes away from the office then back again to clear your head, down the water and plan the next break. You only have to get through to the next break!! Small goals. Set a schedule to eat at work so you allow yourself the food you need plan the snacks and put them in snack size baggies so you only have what your allowed to eat for the day at your office. Do not take cash to by anything!  Good Luck, the Demons of food triggers haunt everyone of us.

Dear April:

Just want to let you know I am right there with you.  This past week or so, I am SO easily annoyed (really PISSED).  It is very hard not to just grab something and stuff it in.  Eating is easier than killing someone!  I am going to try some of these suggestions too.  Hopefully, we can both regain control!

Tell someone that you love them!

Hi April,

I agree with everything everyone says.  One thing I don't see is do you do anything for working out?  Trust me, when you have that knot in your tummy and want to hit something this will help.  I have a punching bag downstairs and there is nothing like hitting a bag to make you feel better. Not to mention its a great workout.  If you don't have a bag, try hitting pillows, I swear it helps.

Get moving, the chemicals that is released in your brain during working out, (just walk) has proven to help us with emotional eating and getting through the tough times.  The pressure we are all going through today is rough.

Come here and ask for help!!!

We are here!!!

Take care,
Kathy

Thanks everyone for your support and tips. Today was a little better because I was able to channel my anger and frustration into taking back control over myself. I guess I just had to look at it like this, "I may not be able to control what else happens around me, but I can control what I do and getting fat again isn't what I want to do." I totally agree with DailyMae123 that we punish bad situations by eating, but today I tried to punish them by drinking my water instead. I was really pissed so I ended up drinking a ton of water! haha

So glad you got in a ton of water!  I hope you go in with a plan tomorrow. You can not change or control it all so pick on thing that you can change and stick to it. Good Luck Tomorrow!
