Back On Track Together

Plan "A" and "B"

This week has been very trying for me. My daughter had hernia repair surgery on the 14th. They thought she had 1 hernia and she actually had 4. Her surgery was suppose to be 2-3 hours and ended up being 6 hrs. She came home on the 19th. She was  re-admitted Friday thru the ER with an infection. I got a call Friday at work about 10:30 a.m. ,that my brother was on the way to the hospital and they were doing CPR. So I leave work to drive to the hospital which is over an hour away. I am almost there not even knowing if my brother is still alive and I get a call from my daughter saying she needs me to take her to the ER in D.C. which is 2 1/2 hours away. So the whole weekend I spend between the 2 hospitals. I have to say Friday I didn't do my best but Saturday I put a plan in action and packed a cooler with all my healthy foods. Oh I packed a healthy lunch on Friday but never got to eat it and actually left it at work since I left suddenly. We should all have a plan  A and B in case life suddenly changes our course. I didn't over eat on Friday. I didn't eat enough since I refused to let the carb monster get me and I had no Plan " B " planned with protein handy in an emergency. I have to say I am right proud that I have a plan now and it is showing on the scales. See you lighter. Joanne

Wow, what a handful weekend you've had. I hope everyone is doing alright. You? You have a GREAT handle on what's going on around you, it sounds like. I mean in taking care of yourself and keeping on track. Plan A and Plan B sounds like a great mantra for us BOTT'ers. I know that I am kind of young and like to "live fast"... but at the same time, I really need to keep a Plan B in mind, because curve balls happen so much more often than we realize, and that's when we find trouble spots. Way to go and good for you for being so smart.

Thanks for your kind words. I am still learning everyday. Oh how well I know about curve balls. It seems like I am doing so well and here comes one smack to my head. I feel like I have my glove ready to catch it with my plan A and Plan B. This is only the first inning. I wish us all more home runs than outs. We can do this. It is " YES WE CAN< YES WE CAN " See you lighter. Joanne

Life can sure grab ahold of us when we least expect it, can't it?  It sounds like you managed wonderfully, and I hope everyone's doing well.  I like your idea of Plan A and Plan B -- we have to think that way to consistently succeed.  Congrats!  :)

A couple of times I had and a small emergency.... so i learn to be prepared.
I try to keep food "plan A" "in case" in my purse at all time. Nuts, protein bars, beef sticks, vitamins. And I keep the one that can last and that I do not care for so much - so I only have them when I really need to (we all have the protein bars that we bough but they are not-so-good")
As long as I have my purse - I have "food" enough for 1 day (at least 700 cal worth)
then - when I am in a "strange" place 9like a hospital - if I have time - I check their "store" for any WLS friendly food (nuts, prot bars, nut bars, water) and get some more - if I think I may be there for a while ( a day or so).  So even if I eat - all the food is a good quality food.  getting a chicken stock from a package (in emergency rooms they may have that) allows me to have a nice hot drink (I use extra water). i also try to carry a small individual pack of easy to use prot powder - add that to water bottle - instant protein shake.  banana or apple (some gas station carry that) finish my emergency stash.

so even as we speak I have:
1 large + 1 small prot bar (total 45 prot, 400 cal), 2 beef sticks (individually wrapped) - each 14 prot, 80 cal,  1 pack prot powder = 27 prot, 240 cal, small bag of almonds, + vitamins for 2 days, pain meds - just in case.  Add a refillable thermos - that can be used for hot or cold - and I am set for a day . Beside the thermos - all other things fit comfortably in a small Ziploc bag. And that ends up in my purse.  I rotate the beef and inspect all the contexts for any damage - at least 1 x a week or when I am changing purses.
I also carry dry - crispy full grain bread in my car (Kavali) and some other items that can withstand heat of the inside of a car. (but I do not have my car today - so my purse - is my pantry - just in case)

If I can stop by the house - there is a stock of "food on the go - easy to grab" including prot shakes, prot bars, individually wrapped cheese, beef sticks, dry bread, dry fruits.....
All my stash is a "saver" even at family - outing events or when I underestimate how long I would be out shopping or being out with friends.

Wow, what a great Plan B... a whole day's stash!!

Not a whit of that would fit in mine! I might have to give in and invest in a larger purse.

yea, that is the only draw back - the only time I have a small purse - is when I go out - but even then - you will find that i do not have a walet (but CC and some cash and ID) but I will have at least 2 prot bars, drink mix and vit... you never know...
