Being a resource can be rewardingposted 2/11/09 3:20 pm
A WLS friend of mine called tonight to tell me she has a bug of some kind and is throwing up. She was concerned because she has a lap-band and was worried that this was a sign of something bad.
I told her that she should focus on fluids first... water, clear liquids and trying to get them through her band and to stay down. If that works, then she should then try to progress to full liquids like skim milk or SF pudding or meal replacement drinks like Atkins or Carnation Instant Breakfast with skim milk (my personal favorite). We talked for a little bit but I could tell she was really under the weather. It's been a while since I've chatted with her and it was nice to catch up. It made me realize that we all need resources to call upon when we're worried or when our surgeon's office is closed. She has my cell phone number and I have her's. I like knowing that there are some people who find some of the information I've posted on my blog helpful. Others will take what I write with a grain of salt and some will use some and throw the rest away. That's fine with me! The idea is to keep my thoughts and experiences documented for future reference and for those who come along after me so they don't have to make the same mistakes I have. Some will, of course. That's just human nature. There are those who just have to fail and realize that what other's say is actually true. They say, a smart man learns from his own mistakes. A wise man learns from other people's. I really want to be a wise man. Somehow, it doesn't work out that way! They also say, some people are auditory learners (they learn by hearing), others are visual learners (they learn by reading or seeing) and others are tactile learners (they learn by doing and experiencing). I think I am in the latter group! I need to do. I read about things but when I actually experience what I read, I get it. Until then, it just doesn't click with me. Other people read it once and they are set. Maybe they're the lucky ones! Being an OH group leader allows me the opportunity to be a resource to others but it also allows me to be exposed to a variety of other people in many phases of this journey from exploration to many years post-op and the vast stages in between. I take from each of them something. A little tid-bit of knowledge when they share their experiences with me or the group. Hopefully, this helps each of us become a wiser person in the long run and not just smarter! Mick 0 Responses to "Being a resource can be rewarding"Be the first to comment!Sign in to comment!
