Topic: RE: Wednesday/Thursday CARb Accountability Roundup, BOOyahhh!

Yesterday was Day #3 of the office "Carb Detox". Boy did I get grouchy / lethargic / headachy & just Brain fogged yesterday afternoon. A little yogurt seemed to do the trick and get me back on track. Today is starting out great so I hope it continues.

Here's Wednesday's consumption:

Morning Meds: LF String Cheese
commute: Coffee w/ splenda and 1/2 & 1/2
B: Flax Seed Muffin in a minute
s: Turkey Pepperoni & Dill Pickle
L: Salad w/ Hard Boiled Eggs & Tuna Salad
s: Greek Yogurt w/ splenda & cinnamon
s: Coffee w/ Splenda and 1/2 & 1/2
D: Chili
Evening Meds: SF vanilla pudding

You are so right about planning. I know I've got a freezer full of stuff to cook but if I don't take something out to thaw ahead of time then it just blows the whole day's eating all to pieces.

editted to add:
thursday looks like:::
Commute: Coffee w/ splenda and 1/2 & 1/2
Breakfast: Egg Beaters w/ peppers and onions added
s: Parmesean Chicken Strip & a lf String cheese
L: Chili
s: Pepperoni  & Dill Pickles
commute: Small Protein Shake (not sure which one I brought with me)
D: Rotisserie Chicken & Small salad w/ ranch dressing

Hi MSW, I too am in the very slow weight loss and easy gain category so I totally get you and what you're facing.  I saw my surgeon yesterday and he told me to just keep doing what I'm doing.  Exercise, eating protein first, low carb.  I too don't want to settle.  I figure we have to keep doing those things post-op regardless of what we weigh, so I'm just accepting that this is my own personal journey.  I get so jealous at the people that say that the weight just falls off.  It's never been my story before and it's clearly not now, but I'm so happy to be battling this issue at 90 pounds down than I was at 249.

I read about this product and immediately searched for the best price so that I could try it.  What intrigued me is that you can just eat it straight from the jar if you want to, which is what I did.  i got the chocolate flavor, but I'm thinking that the natural might be good for adding to salads etc.  Today I'm taking a baggie of it to work to see how I really like it straight from the bag.  The consistency is like Grape Nuts.  Tiny pellets of gravel but chocolate flavored and crunchy.  I'm going to add it to my protein pudding this morning.  I'll let you know how I like it.

Reviews say people bake with it.  I'm going to try a flax seed muffin and see how it is.

Vitacost.com has the best price with free shipping over $49.  They always have great prices on vitamins too.  If it's under $49 it's $4,95 shipping.   GNC just started carrying it but it's so much more expensive.

Topic: RE: Starting Atkins today
Hi Lisa,

The reason they told me not to follow the liver-reduction diet during my 3 months of supervised weight loss is I am borderline on my BMI.  Basically it was because of insurance. The only co-mobidity I have is arthritis (which I take Advil on my own, never really been officially diagnosised, but have a lot of joint pain). I was told not to lose and not to gain.  My first weight was 223.8, and my last one this week was 219.2.  My first BMI was 40.3, and my last was 39.4. I lost a little bit, but did not really try.

Actually, what I had wanted to do when I first started surgery process in January was to go along and try Atkins or Weigh****chers and see if I was finally able to lose weight.  When I was told to stay the same, I have just kind of "hung out" so to speak.  Since they are submitting me for insurance, and I won't be back unless I'm approved, even though the coordinator couldn't tell me anything, I thought I'm just going to start Atkins. I cannot stand feeling so full all the time, and so I am planning on losing (hopefully).  I also thought, it seems like I will have to eat low-carb anyway if I have surgery so I thought it would be a smart move to try it first.  I chose Atkins over Weigh****chers, for whatever reason I cannot stick with WW.  Also, I am menopausal, 53, hypothyroid and have been told that low carb is better in my situation.

I would love to lose about 80-85#, but would be thrilled with 50-60#.  The other thing that worried me after my last weight loss meeting was it sounded like for almost the first year I will only have about 500 calories.  I know we don't count calories, but that just seems like such a small amount.  I also chose Atkins for now as opposed to the liver reduction diet, as it seems more flexible.  Also, if I lose by sticking to it, it would be a WOE for me where I could never just stay on the liver reduction diet.

I am officially starting induction Sunday, as I get paid tomorrow and need to grocery shop (I work Fri & Sat - 12 hour shifts).  Yesterday I started to reduce carbs by using what I have here, and I had 60 carbs, for comparison, I counted carbs from day before and it was 245!!!  I have already lost 1.5#!

Thanks so much Lisa for the encouragement.  I, too, was a little disappointed that the coordinator could not tell me anything.  I asked her at the end of class, and there were a couple of other patients there, and I don't know if she was uncomfortable, she had kinda a grin on her face when I was asking her - like maybe I shouldn't have said anything about not following the diet in front of anyone else????

Thanks again!

Okay folks, I neglected to start a CARb thread Wednesday, and it's already nearly Thursday, so if you're going to keep yourself ACCOUNTABLE, then let's combine days today, shall we???

Wednesday:

Started out great with--

B:  3 poached eggs (no hollandaise) and coffee with SF choc syrup and full cream
S:  protein shake -- still holding strong
L:  at 11:47 AM discovered three colleagues are being laid off, so ....
at 12:31 PM ate a snickers bar for lunch (well, accountability means giving an account)
S: turkey pastrami in a little pita
S2:  parmesan cheese "crackers"
D:  honestly, I have no idea -- probably a glass of wine and a night crying in my pillow for my friends

Anyhooooo .... it was all pretty much good for maintenance until I sought comfort in the arms of candy.  But that's carb addiction fer ya.

Tomorrow is another day!
