Topic: Need to get back to it to prepare for WLS
The invite to this group could not have come at a better time! I was a faithful low-carber for a few years, then budget concerns made it difficult to do. I put on a lot of weight in the last two years.

I am just getting started on the process to have gastric bypass. I know I need to lose some of this weight before they will do this surgery, so I need to get back on track!

I also know that carbs are like crack to me... so after surgery, I need to stay far away from them if possible!

The budget concerns are still there... but I need to find a way to work around it. Any ideas with that are definitely welcome!

Thanks,
Amanda :)

Topic: RE: Introduce Yourself!
Allow me to introduce myself. I am a 43 YO mother of three. I have been heavy all my life and have “dieted" my way up to 445 lbs.   I have been fighting insurance companies for nearly 20 years to get WLS.  I've been turned down by at least 6 insurance companies.  First the claim was no  co-morbidities ****il recent Hypertension) which of course made WLS not a medical necessity. Then the insurance companies or policies had WLS excluded.  Finally it looked like Surgery was on the horizon…..then, being in the education industry, budget cuts eliminated my position.

The unfortunate cir****tance of my father passing recently, afforded me another opportunity. One of my daddy’s wishes was for me to have the surgery. My mom decided that part of his insurance money would pay for my new beginning. I am so grateful. I truly believe that this is the beginning of a whole new life for me.

Anyway, I am now 3 months DS post-op!!!! There was a little “hiccup" that landed me back in the hospital, a week out, but that has been resolved.  I have now lost 118 lbs from my top weight (445) and 68 lbs since surgery (395).  I my DS!!!!

It’s nice to hear from other "Low Carb"ers, their problems and successes, tips and tricks.  I look forward to making friends and developing relationships.

Girl,no,cook it for ONE minute, lol or my micro takes 1min 30 sec. but NOT 3 or 5 min, lol. One ...just ONE! :)

As far as fruits, any of them are too many carbs fro me but I am super sensitive so someone else will have to address tht one, sorry. good job on getting back on track and I don't worry about fat on Atkins.

I began eating cottage cheese with ketchup as a child -- I thinki the story was, Richard Nixon used to eat it that way, or my parents SAID he did .... and before Watergate broke, that somehow made it seem kewl.

What are the best fruits to eat on a low carb diet? I have watermelon and cherries in the fridge, but I have been worried about the carbs.

BTW...I tried the protein muffin, but I messed up a bit. Apparently, my microwave cooks fast. I cooked the muffin for 5 minutes. It came out like a brick.  I will try again, but maybe cook it for 3 minutes.

Take care,
Alicia

Okay...I just have to ask.  Cottage cheese with ketchup? I am thinking that would be gross, but we all have different tastes.

Congrats on the 3 pounds lost.

I have been doing the low-carb thing for a week now. It was really difficult the first couple of days, but it is getting easier.

Today I ate

B: Scrambled cheese eggs
L: 1/2 cup of roasted almonds
S: Pork skins (1 serving)
D: One Italian Sausage

F: 113 C: 19.2 (-8.9) = 10ish P=105.9

I am wondering if I should be worried about the fat in this. What do you think?

well, that is indeed a lot of cherries!  if that doesn't solve the irregularity, can't think of what will!!!

Today:

3 egg-omelette made with fresh garden veggies
homemade iced coffee with cream
cottage cheese with ketchup
sf peanut butter cookies
tuna salad on parmesan crisps

TA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Down three pounds from the whatevah that I gained last semester -- so, back on track.

Sunday.
Doing well.. yesterday I did really good. Food wise and just in general.
But since my last week trip to Ohio, my BM is all messed up. Not regular and not as it use to be - easy do it.  Trips always messed me up in the past. So now I am trying to have that regulated again. As many of the low-carbers know - the high protein diet can be a bit tricky on the BM.
Today I am going to do intro to scuba. I am really excited. Never tried that - so not sure if I would even like it.

Eats:
coffee + raw milk..(x 3)
protein shake, flax muffin
more protein shake
chicken + veggies
yogurt, fruits, etc.
some cheese here and there...
