This looks SOOOO good -- would you consider posting it again, on the recipe sticky?

Donna, it is impossible to know in advance whether a low-carb way of eating will be good for you, but it is probably very similar to the way your doctor wanted you to eat in the early days after your surgery.

There are two good ways to start here:

1.  The first is to peek at the CARb (carb accountability) threads, to see what people really are eating, in a day.  We post the good, the bad, and the ugly there -- It will give you a very good on-the-ground point of view of how we eat, and what it's like when we fall off-the-wagon.

2.  Take a look at the Starting Point: Links to Atkins and Low-Carb
Information
thread -- It has several good links to help you  look in some useful places.

(Not sure you can build a whole healthy way of eating around chicken wings, but I seem to have built mine around eggs and hollandaise -- so who knows!)

Had a very late day at work and just now winding down at nearly midnight.  I have a feeling this will be a very light sleep night at about 2-3 hours.  I haven't had one of these sleepless nights in a long time.

lots of coffee w/ Atkins shake creamer
fried cheese w/sf syrup
LC protein cake
SB soy latte w/ splenda
pot roast and veggies
Atkins bar
Almond milk protein shake w/ peanut butter
cinnamon almonds

In hind sight it looks like a lot more than it felt.

Lora, I'm so sorry about your disappointment with the band.  For what it's worth, there are a lot of people here, learning a low-carb way of eating (WOE) who have had SUCCESSFUL surgeries, so you might have wound up here anyway (and we feel lucky to have you).

You got some good advice, above --  The "start here" sticky at the top of the discussion list has some great links to get you started.  Atkins seems to be popular, but there are many other extremely effective lower-carb plans, including paleo/cave-man, zone, south beach, and others.  If you re-post the ones you think might be of interest, there are helpful folks here who can help steer you in the right direction.

Best of luck!  Please come back and let us know how things are going!

I'm not sure that going over by three little grams is going to knock you out of induction, is it?  Do you FEEL like you're in ketosis?

Saw you had burger patties -- I forgot to list that I had veggie sausage patties for snack .... hadn't had those in years, Mmmmmmmmmmm!

What is "no cal" peanut spread?

Today I've had burger patties, chicken, protein powder, an egg, peanut butter, no cal peanut spread, no cal syrups, flavored water.  My carbs are over by about 3g for the second day in a row.  I'm not doing well holding to induction.  Tomorrow starts a day one yet again.  Other than that its a respectable day.

Today was a great day, but somehow I'm still crabby this afternoon, and it's reflected in my dinner choice which was ....

jordan almonds!

Need to gnaw on something, I guess.  Ever had one of those days where despite everything going well, you're still on edge?  That's my day, today!

So ....

breakfast was eggs hollandaise
lunch was peanuts and cheese
snack was coffee .... coffee .... coffee .... (decaf, but might be part of the reason I'm on edge) ....
and then JOrdan ALMONDS!

I was going to eat dinner, but my family is just irritating the daylights out of me for absolutely no good (or bad) reason that I can think of, and I just don't want to be at the table with them.  In a lot of ways, I'm feelking like a 16 year old right now .... NOT GOOD!

No totals today.

Low carb is not for every one but it is for me.  Limiting carbs and managing fats improves my results.  Its no magic bullet.  It takes discipline as all diet programs do.  Including our given pre op diets or "lifestyle change" if we prefer.

What you're giving up is more of an issue than what you can eat.  Are you ok without sugar, flour, and pretty much all white carbs?  You'll also be giving up most whole grains.

You will be eating foods low in carbohydrate of all types.  Vegetables and dairy will supply the bulk of your carbs.  How many carbs you consume will depend on your program.  Think meats,  seafood, poultry, dairy, eggs, low carb products, and selected sugar free products.

Chicken wings can certainly be included.  Just omit the carbs in cooking if you would normally bread or flour them.
