Thank You WhackaDoodle,
I have thought it might be the coffee, and that even though I have consumed it in excess for years with no issue, perhaps now for some reason it is having an adverse reaction. I am going to go without for a few days (even though I know that may bring on a withdrawl headache) and see how it goes. I will also contact my Dr. and do some research on both cluster and tension headaches.
I am so happy I stumbled upon this group and look forward to being an active participant.

That's all folks, plan to weigh Sunday...

Hi.  I'm Lora, I'm 48 years old and single (and pretty happy that way, actually!), and I will be 4 years out from RNY surgery in August.  I am a full-time database applications programmer and part-time Licensed Professional Counselor (in the process of switching careers).  I am also working on finishing my PhD.

I was overweight as a teen, but not obese.  I gradually gained weight through my 20s and 30s, and then gained almost 100 pounds in a year after two major life traumas just a few months apart.  I lost over 185 pounds after my RNY (but it took 20 months to reach my goal weight) and have been maintaining at 5-8 pounds over my goal weight since then.  Exercise is somewhat limited for me as I have "severe tri-compartmental arthritis" in one knee (and moderate arthritis in the other) and I am trying to put off having knee replacement surgery, but I have a recumbent bike at home that I can use on all but the worst days, do some weight training at the local rec center, and I occasionally do water aerobics.

I enjoy white water rafting, rollercoasters (fortunately, I like a half hour from King's Island outside of Cincinnati), gardening, traveling overseas, reading, watching baseball (Reds) and football (OSU Buckeyes(!) and Denver Broncos), and playing with my dogs (a 4-yr old Scottie and a 7-month old Chow puppy (who already weighs 50 pounds!)).

No, I don't mind... I'm a pretty open, straighforward person (raised by an ex- Marine).  I was violently raped a number of years ago and the 26th is the "anniversary" of the rape.  Although it has gotten better over the years, my anxiety level is elevated the last half of April every year, and then the week right before the anniversary is pretty intense.

Melissa --

Something to consider with headaches is, ironically there are no pain receptors in the brain itself.  No kidding.  Brain surgeons often perform their delicate work on patients who are fully awake and aware during the procedures.

What you have sounds an awful lot like either a cluster headache, or a tension headache.  Of course, any sudden change is reason for concern, and you should probably consider asking your doctor.  Anything is possible, and people often have negative reactions to the most idiosyncratic things -- You never know!

Will you keep us posted?  I'd like to hear more about this (and though I  hate to mention it because I absolutely love coffee, to the tune of 4-6 cups a day, have you considered that this might be the culprit?).

Thank YOu Anne,
Never thought of that...will check it out, as I get older it seems everything effects me differently...I used to drink a ton of coffee everyday with no issue... for now I will try laying off the coffee if I still get the headache I can look at something else in my diet.

Alot of people get a caffiene buzz more so with regular coffee, than with espresso.   I am a coffee addict from 4:30 am to 10:00 am.

A thought would be check if the caffiene is raising your blood pressure.   Better to be safe than sorry!  Good luck! Ann

Good Morning everyone,
Been a while...but I have a question. I had my Gastric Bypass surgery, Dec of 07. Lost 207 pounds...had gained (over the course of a year or more) about 40 back. Got back on track using Atkins, as it is similar to how we eat...protein first, ect. The first week went great I lost 9 pounds (mostly water, I suppose) but this week I am battling some pretty annoying headaches. Before getting back on the program, I was doing one or two FF/SF quad latte's a day with two splenda each and having no issues, However Atkins does not allow skim milk so I am now drinking regular coffee approx 3 cups a day each with 1 splenda; and as soon as I start drinking my morning cup...boom the headache is there. Usually across the front of my head and at my temples, but as the day wears on it often moves to the back of my head and to my neck.... I am at a loss...any ideas??? I need something in my coffee to sweeten it up and I have never had problems with splenda before ...maybe it's the regular coffee opposed to the espresso???
Any input will help!!!
Thank You,
Melissa

 Hi, Lisa:

I had to chime in and thank you for this recipe. Gotta love anything that will help motility and can be cooked in a mug in the micro.  I am  NOT a cook and never will be, no matter how hard I try.

I also like the tea "Smooth Move" but it can be like gunpowder to newbies.

I am loving my Atkins lifestyle!  Thanks for this forum.

Sorry I didn't post the Tuesday thread, folks -- busy, out eating a low-carb storm!  (When you read my daily menu, keep in mind I'm on maintenance, so you'll see a fewer carby items mixed in).

TUESDAY:
B:  Coffee, cream, cheesy onion-peppers-tomato omelette in butter
S:  Gefilte fish with beet horseradish
L:  roasted chicken, carrots with apricots, garden salad with greens from my own yard
S:  chocolate-coconut macaroon (homemade, not that canned stuff)
D:  mushroom-chard soup with a matzo ball,
gefilte fish, haroset, four glasses of red wine (it's a wonder I can type), fried chicken shnitzel, beets, asparagus, and a pecan cookie

WEDNESDAY:

B:  coffee, cream, three poached eggs
S:  chopped liver on celery
L:  pickled herring with cole slaw
S:  yogurt/berry smoothe (greek yogurt, artificial sweetener, frozen berries)
D:  I absolutely have no idea yet
