Topic: RE: KILL THE CARB MONSTER, HOW DO YOU DO IT?
I am dealing with that right now. It is so hard... But next few days I plan to do it.
For me - the worse is day 2. Day 1 my body has enough glycogen stored so it is giving me an OK>.. but the second and third day? I want to chew my arm or... drink wine...
Hope this time, again as I did so many times, I can give up carbs for a few days...
For me there are no "good carbs" unfortunately.  My body wants them if - when I start eating them.

Starting to get dizzy a lot lately? I had this before and could never figure out how to stop it.
What do you all think I should do?

I'm so sorry you're in this fix.  Probably every one of us has been there before -- at least once.

So, to respond to the concrete issues --
1)  remove all the demons from the household.  All of them. Including the ones you think you won't eat.
2)  Go back and check that you really did remove the carb offenders.
3)  ORDER YOUR FOOD DELIVERED if you can.
4) pack your meals and snacks a day or two in advance, if possible
5)  be generous with yourself and eat low-carb things you really love
6)  when in doubt, go for the really high fat choices for a couple of days until you switch over to burning fat instead of glycogen -- probably about three days

Good luck!

It's nice to have you posting here again, btw!

This is a good source of info about protein intake.

You may stay at Induction as long as you feel well, but .... keep in mind that healthful low-carbing is a WAY OF EATING as opposed to a diet.  With a diet, you do it until you reach your goal and then go hog-wild as you rapidly return to whatever you did before.

It's usually better to begin gradually adding carbs until you find a level that you can actually sustain for a loner period of time.  It could take you a year to healthfully lose that 100 pounds!!!  It might be unrealistic to expect yourself to stay on induction that long.

Oh, Hala, summer fruit is one of my major downfalls!  There is a fig tree right outside my front door, that produces the most amazing, pink-centered, tender, honeydew sweet fruit from July through September, and I just never, ever resist.

Today's haul:

B:  3 eggs, a pot of coffee with creamer
S:  a pot of decaf with creamer
L: cheese "crackers" and queso fresco with marinara
S: blueberry/greek yogurt smoothie, also two oreos, go figure
S:  a pretzel
D:  I have no idea, I'm too tired and carb-slumped to find the kitchen

You have the calculation right but it will be awhile before you will ever eat so much protein as a newbie.  Nor is it necessary as you are in active weight loss.  Woman generally need 60-80g protein daily.   You're doing just fine.

The cardio helps burn off the fat but you can always add strength training.  Muscle mass fuels metabolism.

As for concise?   Well, it just takes too long. Lol.

Topic: RE: Induction Seduction: Having Trouble Saying No to Quick WL
I only wish!  I have not seen quick weight loss since myearly teens and I'm rapidly slamming into my half century mark.

I'm all for quick weight loss unless you tend to go hog wild after reaching your goal.  If you have difficulty going into maintenance without going overboard, I say slow it down so you become accustomed to what you need to do to maintain.  Otherwise, I'd just enjoy the results.

I appreciate your response and what you are calling the "rambling"!!

Ok, let me make sure I understand the protein calculation above:

At 299lbs, my requirement would be 135.9 grams of protein?  I've been right at 85, so I'm thinking I could increase?

As far as exercise goes, right now I'm doing cardio only, but I have a consultation with a trainer (since I have never had a structured workout plan before).

And, for the record - being 'concise' is in the eye of the beholder.  If concise still means that you can give comprehensive information clearly and in a few words, it's up to the reader to determine that (and I think you hit the mark above).

Thx~!!!

Topic: KILL THE CARB MONSTER, HOW DO YOU DO IT?

What do you do when you crave carbs?  How do you rid yourself of the urge to eat and perhaps overeat the 'naughty' foods?

I tried a promising diet plan that included more carbs, be it good carbs, than I normally would eat.  Now I've opened a door that is tough to close.  Moreover, I could not stick with it because the carbs spurred my appetite and I was forever hungry.

Unlike a day off from low carbing the cravings are not going away.  I'm afraid to go to the store for fear of losing it in the junk food ailse.  I'm pushing the dense protein and a few 'good' carbs as I ween myself off of them.  How have you tackled this problem?

Topic: RE: New here
Welcome, glad you have joined us.  I generally stay on extended induction for awhile.  Then I raise my carbs to 50g, 75g, and finally 100g max for total carbs.  Weight loss is my guide to how quickly I move on.

I am carb sensitive so over 100g total is only for special occaisions for me.  Try and stick to low gycemic index foods and avoid refined carbs as you move out of induction.
