Hi Penny,

You've come to the right place!  You've already gotten some great advice from these wonderful women.  I wanted to add that looking at the big picture can be overwhelming.  When i'm making changes, I have to tell myself that I'm forgoing the carbs for one meal which then stretches to one day more easily.  Take it one day at a time and know that you're not giving yourself a prison sentence.  I find that I miss the carbs (a lot!) for a few days.  What I miss is fruit because I don't eat grains or sugar products so I crave that natural fruit.  It takes me several days to get it out of my system, then I don't crave it as much.  Feed yourself as much high quality protein as fits nicely in your pouch.  Drink lots and get good rest.  You said your exercise is good so you're already on top of that.

You've taken that first step of asking for help.  Bravo!!  Keep posting lots and stay in touch.  You can do this.  :)

I too wanted a little more variety.  After 7 weeks I was missing fruit and veggies.  So last week I bought some strawberries at the farmer's market and some fresh veggies.  That one day turned into a few days.  I rationalized that my body needed the fiber.  My reality was that I really missed that naturally sweet, fresh taste of fruit.  I kind of hung out with the fruit for a week and my scale is up 2 pounds.  Today I'm back to induction because I want these last pounds off!  I figure I'll be able to eat strawberries and other fruit this summer if I'm lucky and can tolerate it.

Some of us do ok with more fruit and others like me, not so much.  I think that as long as we are honest about what/why we make our choices, we're just fine.  For me, I don't think I was so honest with myself about why I wanted the berries.  Tonight was two weeks in a row at WW that I didn't lose any weight.  I'd rather give them up for now to see the scale moving.

I just wanted to personally thank you for starting this group - it's exactly what I need! I've followed the Atkins diet on and off for the past 40 years (yes it really has been around that long) - I'm excited now to use it in conjunction with my RNY and undo the damage I'm done to myself over the last 2-1/2 years - there is so much helpful info here, and I'm having fun checking out all the links... I really like the Atkins Chef Recipes idea! Most of all, I'm looking forward to getting and giving support in return.

Thanks again!

Shari

Hey -- nice to have you here!  I have done the five-day-pouch test as a means of getting myself back into induction before.  As I recall it was pretty  humbling to go through all those various stages of dietary re-entry from the start -- really reminded me of how far I'd come!

Interested in low-carb nutrition?  Thinking of trying Atkins? Want to try high-fat and/or high-protein eating?  Whether or not you have had (or are thinking about) WLS   http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/atkins/

Pulling myself up by the bootstraps after 2-1/2 years of stupid eating... read my blog if you desire... I laid it all out there... now it's time for a fresh start, but this time, I don't intend to try to do it alone! I'll take help from wherever I can get it, and I'll offer the same in return! I started 2 days ago with the "induction phase/5-day pouch test combo"...

Yesterday I consumed 3 Atkins protein shakes and lots of coffee... mainly decaf.

Today:
Breakfast - Atkins shake
Mid morning - Atkins shake
Lunch - Atkins shake
Dinner - Too hungry and starting to feel weak after 15 minutes on elliptical, so I had tuna salad (Low-carb vanilla yogurt in lieu of mayo) and sugar free bread and butter pickles over chopped lettuce - DELICIOUS!
Snack - Lemon Ginger Tea

No purple on the Ketostix yet, but should see color change by morning.

Well i went to the Farmer's Market yesterday and i couldn't resist the strawberries,  they were beautiful so i bought some and thought i'd see what happens.    At 17 lbs to goal i'm not really stressed about how soon i get there,  i already feel and look so much better.  So i think i'm gonna play around a little.  I may regret it but the cool thing is i can go back to induction if i feel its going too slow,  we'll see  :o) jeani

Thanks for your imput.   I really missed fruit so i ate a big strawberry yesterday and some low carb bread.  No loss on the scale this morning but i don't really expect to lose weight every day.  If i dont lose more i may just stick to induction for a while but it is hard :o(   take care :o) Jeani
