Topic: RE: Getting started? Carb detox?
Hi Liz -

There are a lot of good books available on low-carb eating. Personally I just picked up the
New Atkins for a New You and am following that... it explains everything you'll need to get started and it's a very handy "how to" book!

Welcome!

I don't do cereals.  The only one that I did in the past are the protein cereals by Kay naturals... or one like that.  But I used them as a yogurt or fruit salad toppers anyway... But since I discovered that my body has issues with Splenda - I can't do them either.
Cereals are slider foods.. they do not stay in the pouch...

Just stop doing most starchy carbs.  For me - the 5DPT is a good way.     I also avoid milk - major carb issue for me.

Topic: RE: Chocolate: Do You Have Some Every Day?
I do get chocolate... Not every day... but a lot of days... some it is a form of my chocolate flavored proteins... some it is just that - chocolate... either 90% or 85% or some 75%... I don't go lower than that... But I have so much chocolate in my house... and since I can have as much as I want (the right kind - 85 or 90%) I really do not want it as much... Funny how our body changes... I also have other chocolate in my house - milk chocolate... but with RH - I know better than to have that... have my butt whipped a few times when I try to have that... I do hate the low BS symptoms with passion...  I do almost anything to avoid the low BS ...

Topic: Getting started? Carb detox?
How do I get started with the low carb lifestyle? (notice I am not calling it a diet, because IMO diets fail and this is a lifestyle change!)  I have been eating every kind of carb and too much of it like pretzels, wheat crackers, potatoes, pasta, pizza and I need to stop, now!!
thanks for your help!!

Topic: RE: Introduce Yourself!
I am so glad I have found this group!!  My name is Liz and I had RNY in January 2010, so I am about  1 yr and 2 months out, I have lost 115  lbs so far, still looking to lose about 10-15 more lbs.  However the last 2 months or so seems like I cannot get away from the carbs, therefore the scale has not moved!!  It was like once I started eating them again now I am almost addicted to them :(    And I feel much more sluggish since then, so I am looking to get rid of them!!  I have also experience reactive hypoglycemia within the past couple months, which I believe is due to my increased carb intake.  And that is not fun at all!!  I am also scared about regaining, so I want to get back on track now!!!
I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing great advice with each other!!

This is THE most popular pizza recipe on the Ds forum, It is by a member called Brok. Some of the others have altered it and made a white sauce or made a blue cheese and buffalo chicken version to great reviews!! It may be kinds high fat for some of you but I love it!!

8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
3 eggs
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon basil, optional
Toppings of your choice *

Mix the cheeses, eggs, garlic powder and basil well. Line a 16-inch pizza pan with parchment paper or nonstick foil. Evenly spread the cheese mixture in the pan, almost to the edge, making it as thin as possible. Bake at 450º 15-20 minutes until golden brown. I suggest checking it after about 10 minutes. If it's getting very dark on the edges and top, turn the oven down to 400º and continue baking until brown all over and no longer pale on the bottom. Pat off any excess grease then add your toppings. Keeping the oven rack in the center position, put the pizza under the broiler until the toppings are hot and any cheese you added is melted and bubbly, about 4-5 minutes.

Makes 8 servings
Can be frozen
yummy

* You may want to sauté your mushrooms, peppers and other vegetable toppings before using because the pizza will only be baked briefly with the toppings on. I also recommend pre-warming any meat toppings as well. I put all of my toppings, except the sauce and cheese, in a big skillet and heated them up together.

This is a popular recipe on the Ds forum here: (not my recipe though lol)
Cupcake:
3 - 8 oz. packages of cream cheese
1 cup of Splenda
5 eggs
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Filling:
8 oz Sour Cream
2 TBSP Splenda
1/4 tsp Vanilla

Bring cream cheese to room temperature. Place cream cheese in a bowl, and add one egg at a time, beating with a hand mixer. Slowly add the Splenda and vanilla. (The batter will be thin.)

Pour into paper cupcake liners. (Makes approx. 12 very full cupcakes.) Bake in a 300 degree oven for 30 - 35 minutes ****il large cracks appear on the top). Remove from oven and cool for 5 minutes.

Combine filling ingredients and add a tsp on top of each cupcake and return to the oven for 5 minutes.

Cool and then keep refrigerated.

Topic: Cereal?
Hi Everyone,

What kind of cereal does everyone eat?  I bought some from Kay's Naturals.  The vanilla one is so good.  High protein.  I use a little of heavy cream in stead of milk because of the carbs.

Any info would be appreciated.
