Luv the tips.  here are a few I've learned.

Body building sites as well as my surgeons patient rny manual give us this tip for fat burning.  Exercise right upon waking in a fasting state.  You burn off the clycogyn stores in the liver immediately then start burning through stored body fat.  This does not have to be a marathon session.  A good twenty minutes at fat burning intensity then have your 30g of protein immediately.

Also, take advantage of afterburn.  A intense workout can continue to burn calories and fat stores for hours.  This is the time to replenish your body with a good protein meal and enjoy your   carbs in moderation of course.  Your metaboism is at its most active and will burn off those carbs first.

One more, apple cider vinegar.  If you cannot have grapefruit juice (as with some medications) this is a substitute for the suggestion above.  Two teaspoons in some water before meals.  Getting it down is another thing altogether, lol.  This was something I learned from the old folks growing up to slim your waistline.

Thanks for posting this Rhonda.  I think I read this as well.  The part that I didn't get before was about having the 30 grams of protein right after waking up.  I know a lot of people on the LW board that have protein coffee as soon as they wake up and they are very successful.  I wonder if there's truth in this.  I generally don't have my protein for 2-3 hours after I wake up.  I start with tea at 6am, then have breakfast between 8 and 9.   Maybe I'll try having hot protien coffee in the morning and seeing if it makes a difference after 2 weeks.   Great experiment!

I won't be trying those ice packs either.  Last night I was freezing and had a semi sore throat all day.  I took my temp at 10pm and it was 95.6 on the digital thermometer.  Took it again this morning and it was 96.6.  I thought those thermometers were supposed to be accurate.  I've always run low but this is a point lower than usual.  No wonder I'm freezing all the time!

I've not tried these, yet--they come from my 6 ingredient low carb cooking book:

Lemon Cheesecake (makes 12 servings / Per serving: 213 cal / 17 g fat / 7 g protein / 2 g carb / 0 fiber)

Ingredients:
1 (3-oz) pkg sugar free lemon gelatin
2 (8-oz) pkgs cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup Xylitol
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup heavy cream

Thoroughly mix the gelatin with 1/4 cup boiling water, stirring until dissolved. In mixing bowl, combine remaining ingredients and beat until smooth and light. Add gelatin and beat until smooth. Spoon into a lightly sprayed 9 inch pie dish and chill 4 hours until set.

Regular Cheesecake

Makes 16 servings (Per Serving: 233 cal / 21 g fat / 6 g protein / 1 g sugar / 5 g carbs / 0 g fiber)

*For a Smooth Cheesecake, important to have all ingredients begin at room temp*

3 Tbls graham cracker crumbs
3 (8-oz) pkgs cream cheese, softened
4 large eggs
3/4 cup puls 1 cup sour cream
1 cup Splenda, plus 1/4 cup more (can reduce carbs by 2 per serving by using Xylitol---texture will be different, though)
4 Tbls lemon juice divided

Preheat oven to 350*. Lightly spray a 9" springform pan. Add graham cracker crumbs and rotate to cover bottom and sides. Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, and mix well. Add 3/4 cup sour cream, 1 cup Splenda and 2 Tbls lemon juice. Mix until smooth. Pour into pan and bake 35 to 40 minutes until "just firm" (the center should still jiggle just a little). Combine 1 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup Splenda and 2 Tbls lemon juice. Gently pour over baked cheesecake and spread over top. Bake 5 minutes. Place pan on rack and cool. Cover then chill

OK--not sayin go and carb; nevertheless we all have life

On Dr. Oz few days ago, he had the guy who wrote "The Four Hour Diet". and a few "damage control" for when you carb that will cause your body to burn the sugar instead of store it. The first is if you "plan" your carb food; then 1/2 hour before eating, drink 4 oz grapefruit juice. The thought here was that some component in the grapefruit juice opens receptors in the muscles---thereby "grabbing" the sugar from the blood and burning it instead of converting it to fat.

The next one was if after your carb "oops" to start doing squats right away---use those big muscles in the legs and tu**** too opens up more receptors and will burn the sugar instead of storing it. He said you have 15 - 20 minutes after eating and this will damage control.

OH AND AN ENCOURAGEMENT FOR US: He also found that 30 grams of protein eaten within 30 minutes of waking up will cause your metabolism to raise, and curtail hunger ford day as it keeps insulin / sugar levels more even keel---and it has to do with the "right after waking", he said that it's not the same if you get up, do whatever, then make your first meal 30 grams.

To speed up your calorie burning while exercising; apply ice packs to back / chest area 15 minutes prior to exercise. This causes your body to have to work harder (yea, my always cold self won't be trying that one--lol)

Thursday 0900...

2 scrambled eggs
2 Atkins bars (6-7 grms cab)
1 marzipan bar (5.5 grms carb)
4 pork and stilton sausages
4 ozs cheese
1 bag crackers (20 grms carb)
Coffee and fruit teas.

Every day I am still amazed that I am off insulin and feeling so alive.  After 20+ years I have a life again!  Another 2 inches off my waist and I'll be wearing 36 inch trousers and have lost 20 inches off my waist - haven't worn a 36 since I was 20, in 1973....sigh.

If you are sensitive to soy products here is an alternative shirataki noodle made from 100% konjac yam.  The fishy smell of the packing water rinses off withourt a trace in a minute or two under tap water.  They can be boiled or sauteed.

Use the information you gain from this experience as you climb back on the wagon and leave it behind you.  Make a note of how your body reacts to the sugar and then decide if its really worth any set back.   We will slip at times.  We just have to keep slipping from becomming our new standard.
