Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss

The recipe that follows is as I made it, flawed frosting and all. I used special dark cocoa but natural cocoa will do just as well.
If you try it let me know how it turned out. If you can improve on it, please post your version.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
I have one pot of coffee left; so after this pot is gone, I'll switch my beverage choice to caffine / carb free herbal teas. So until then, sorta low carb today, and coffee. Tomorrow, tweaking my plan again and giving it a try.
How to Lose Fat Using Ketosis
1
Determine how much body fat you need to lose. Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), which is a measurement of how much body fat you have in proportion to your weight and height. Take your weight in pounds and divide it by your squared height in inches, multiplying that number by 703. For example, if your weight is 165 and your height is 5'6", your formula to calculate your BMI is [165 ÷ (66)2] x 703 = 26.62. Set your goals to achieve a BMI in the normal range of 18.5 to 24.9.
2
Use a carbohydrate counter and plan your meals. Download the acceptable foods list using the resource box, or use a pocket carbohydrate counter to measure the amount of carbohydrates that each particular food contains. Avoid sugar and starch and eat plenty of meat and cheese. Plan your meals accordingly.
3
Start the two-week induction phase of ketosis consuming less than 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. The two-week induction period typically lasts for two weeks, but you may stay in this stage until you are within 20 pounds of your goal weight. You may experience headaches and other symptoms, which are normal.
4
Drink plenty of water and eliminate caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine stimulates insulin production, which is something you don't want for ketosis, while alcohol contains high carbohydrates, pushing you out of the state of fat-burning. Drink a glass of water before each meal to deal with the hunger pangs that may occur during the first few days.
5
Increase you daily intake of carbohydrates by five grams each week. For example, during the third week of ketosis eat only 25 grams of carbs each day, and the fourth week eating only 30 grams of carbs each day. Continue adding five grams of carbs each day every wee****il you have stopped losing weight, ending the state of ketosis.
6
Use the ketosis experience to change your eating habits on a permanent basis. Once your body leaves ketosis, you will know the daily carbohydrate intake your body needs. Plan your meals or food choices as a lifestyle, rather than a diet so your weight loss will be permanent and reevaluate your daily intake needs as your metabolism changes or you increase your fitness levels.

I just had my 2nd anniversary of being a Realize Lap bander. I had it done on January 26, 2009 in Birmingham. Dr. Schmitt did the surgery and he is wonderful. I initially lost 66 pounds but I've gained 20 of those back. My esophagus is zig zagged shaped and I have a hard time eating anything unless it's soft. My stomach has a burning feeling and I started eating frozen yogurt and Weigh****cher Giant popsicles. That will put the weight back on fast! I don't know what they are going to do about my esophagus. I go back to the specialist doctor Feb. 2. They don't think the band caused it.
I am married and have two beautiful daughters and two beautiful granddaughters. I married at 18 and have been married for 46 years to the same wonderful man. Yep, I'm 64! My granddaughters are Ashlyn age 11, and Sydney who is 16 but will be 17 in March. Nothing like a teenage driver in the family. I worry about her constantly driving back and forth to school in the big truck she wanted and got for her 16th birthday. She's a tiny little thing and the truck is a GM 150. She has decided to trade the truck for a car and they are looking at cars today.
I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and losing weight! I joined Curves and just love it. It's so much fun and doesn't seem like exercise.

I'm over maintenance for the day by 147 cals. Its been a very low cal week so it should all wash. Way off induction carbs but all through permitted foods. Still under my 10% ceiling. Back to weight loss mode.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
I can see a shift in my face, more wrinkles, leaner since dumping the carbs three weeks ago. I'm not giving up on this, even when my tricky brain says that I should be eating way more fruit and veggies and probably some popcorn too. NOT. My tricky brain really knows how to do a number on me so I have to just stay vigilant and keep my eye on my goal. I have never in my life gotten to my goal before, and I've been dieting since elementary school - read over 50 years. I have always given up way before even getting close to goal. Now I have my Sleeve to help me and I am going to stay the course. I go to WW every Monday night and getting on that scale to remind me when my tricky brain screams FOOD that I have a goal.
I'll come back and report my food later tonight.

Rebecca, you do so great with your protein intake and manage to keep your calories low. Did I read that you're training for a race? Are you a student at Chico? My step daughter went to school there many many many moons ago. I remember it as being a nice little town.
We're close with our surgery dates! Our one year is coming right up. You've done a great job. Congratulations!

It may only be 1 oz of cheese, but I didn't need it, nor had I planned it.
Since starting Atkins almost three weeks ago, I've been pretty good in my choices and aside from those 2 oz of almonds a week ago, I'm trying to be more aware of that sort of behaviour.
My comfort type foods were not atkins friendly. Even just a nice crunch fugi apple is not atkins friendly. I haven't turned to low carb bars or anything like that but notice that sometimes I really want the crunch. I have read that the need to crunch is activated by feelings of anger that we aren't letting out vocally so therefore look for something to do with it that is more socially acceptable.... EAT!
I think it's great that we're talking about this. I have a huge huge overwhelming fear of not getting to goal, then starting to gain again. My Kaiser keeps stressing that 1 in 3 gain their weight back. I am so determined not to be that "1" so I think that talking about the emotional/behavioural side of all this is so important for me. Thanks for raising issues and being willing to be vulnerable and letting me do the same.
