Aww, Paul -- I always notice your posts!

It's been sort of a rough week, overall -- don't feel badly, there's not a lot that really makes me laugh right now!

Amy I am so very, very sorry about this terrible loss.

There are a lot of reasons your body might "feel like crap" and 99.999% of those reasons have to do with grief.  If you're crying a lot, it's easy to get dehydrated.  Depressed people don't move around much, which throws off an already-skewed metabolism, and lack of really good, healing sleep complicates things further.  When we feel extraordinarily sad, there are a lot of things we tend not to do for ourselves, and it's totally normal (unfortunately) for our bodies to let us know just how wrong things are, overall.

In short, grieving people tend to feel awful physically, as well as emotionally.

It's probably not just a few mouthsful of "crappy carbs" here and there.

I remember that when my sister died, I told a therapist that I just wanted to stop hurting, and could she please tell me how to do that?  (I was fairly young at the time)

Please be extra kind to yourself.  Try to turn in early and get a little extra sleep.  Eat well.  Drink enough fluids.  And post back to let us know how things are going.

There's no rhyme nor reason to this sort of tragedy, sending warm thoughts and sympathy...

You are so right that I tend to post where the protein comes from and neglect to mention the glorious details -- where the veggies fit in.  I'[m thinking that I need to add that, in the future.

FWIW -- today the veggies are the spinach that goes with the eggs hollandaise, and the tomatoes, onions, garlic, chard, and peppers that I throw into the cacciatore.  Maybe some mushrooms as well.

Thank you for bringing up this point!

So Doodle girl
Where are your veggies? I just joined this group and I have been doing Atkins for almost a year and have read the book. How are you going to get 12-15 vegetable NET carbs in at dinner time, since you haven't gottne any veggies until now?
Just wondering if you have the new (2010) book or are going by an old one maybe?

So this time last week my family and I found out that my oldest brother was killed in an accident, he was only 33 years old. We were devastated...I'm still in shock...feeling pretty numb.

The past 2 days I have eaten a few bites of 'starchy foods'  here and there. Enough to make my body feel like crap. I promised myself that if something like this happened in my life that I would NOT let it derail my healthy eating habits.
Now I get to detox my body of crappy carbs and get back to a high protein low carb lifestyle.
Oh yeah, and I'm not getting enough water...I think that is another reason my body is rebelling.

Prayers for strength would be most appreciated.
Any good ways to detox the body of refined carbs?? Cold turkey?? or with the help of herbal teas?

I am 15 months postop and have 9 lbs left to lose to get to my personal goal of 150 lbs. My surgeon wants me between 135 and 145lbs.

Thanks for listening to me vent.

I add flax meal to my food. Yogurt, soups, etc.
1/4 cup Greek yogurt, 1 scoop proteins, 1-2 Tbs flax meal 1 -2 Tbs frozen blueberries, sweetener. Mix all- enjoy.
