Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Recent Posts
Hi, Saw a link to this group and thought I may find some valuable information and fellow-DSers I can bounce things off of regarding using Atkins as a base for losing weight with the DS. I'm coming up on 2 years since surgery and have lost 141 pounds; 6 pounds in the last week. I'm wondering if there is a minimum number of carbs and a maximum number of carbs (in grams) for losing weight on the DS. In my research, it appears 50 grams total per day is right for losing weight. What would be the allowable deviation to shoot for? No more the 51? 60? in a day? what about in the other direction? No less that 49? 20? Any help is appreciated! Anyone out there?
Just found this site and I am very interested in getting it back up and active.
so many people do try and keep low carb and would love to find new ideas.
So please everybody chime in and let some low carb ideas get flowing!
Thanks
looking forward to hearing from everyone

i had a protein drink this morning. tommorrow will add strawberries to my whey protein for a delicious smoothie. went shopping at costco and had some sample weiner. and a cube of blue cheese. it was a strong flavor but i liked it. a little goes a long way. also had a no sugar added sample of tapioca. (my bad) for supper diced chicken on a veggie and shredded cheese, bacon bits, salad. for a snack later this evening hummus on celery. i am feeling good on atkins. just wish i had started sooner. something seems to have clicked this time. am hopeful that i can lose my remaining 20 lbs. ( my doctors goal, mine is to lose 35) good luck to everyone. hope you will post your daily menu so we all can perhaps get new ideas , to try on our own meals. thanks

i just started atkins last week. i needed something to help curb my sweet tooth addiction. i am a diabetic so it is very important to avoid carbs. i have lost 4 lbs. thus far and not craving sweets either. i stocked up today on some celery and hummus so i will snack on this . i think the key to atkins is eating good protein with low carb. vegetables and low carb fruit . bought strawberries today and some whey protein powder so will enjoy a smoothie for breakfast. good luck

THANK YOU I WILL CHECK IT OUT !!
I appreciate you taking the time to answer me & reply back.
Have a great day !
As you can see this board is basically dead hasn't been busy for a long time. I just happened to stop in, haven't been here in months. I would suggest you go to atkins.com and read their website and they have a question forum too. I've never managed a no carb diet but I've been able to keep it under 20-30 and still have plenty to eat, keeping my calories low too. You WILL have "carb flu" when you cut your carbs but it should only last a few days and you'll start feeling better, the headaches will go away. I would start by getting rid of white carbs like sugar, flour, pasta, rice and bread if you eat any of those. Then you can star****ching veggies and beans, some of the veggies are high in carbs like carrots, peas and corn. If you are going to come here often I'll start checking in and see if I can help at all but like I said the Atkins website is really good and they have a newer version from the one back in the 60's. It's a little easier to follow and the South Beach diet is lower carb but not as severe as the Atkins so that should help you get started, good luck!
