WHY isn't it working for me? HELP!

Hi, this is my first post here so let me introduce myself. My name is Amalia, 55 y.o., live in Athens, Greece, had VSG almost 2 years ago and so far I have lost 50kg or 110 lbs. I have MS and am wheelchair bound most of the time. I have lost all my excess weight by diet alone since exercise is not really possible for me and I was doing fine until the beginning of this year. That's when the weight loss slowed to a CRAWL with the result that I've only lost about 10-12 kg during this period.
I started experimenting with various "diets" and I finally stumbled across Atkins. I've been following Atkins religiously since July and have managed to weed out all carbs from my diet except green salads and the tiny amount that is contained in my coffee. Oh, and I do have 2 BITE-SIZE rusks per day with breakfast with my cheese and salami for a grand total of 20-25 carbs per day.
I LIKE this way of eating. I no longer feel like I need to eat any carbs and I know ketosis is happening because I can smell it! LOL My last lab results were brilliant. However, I'm NOT losing weight!
I have been STUCK to 80-81 kg for the past 2 months and before that I was STUCK at 81-82 kg. I've been trying to keep my total calories under 1100.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi Amalia,
Can you journal and post all - all of it - what you have been eating for a week?
Sometimes body may try to hold on to fat... and may use all and everything it has...

Maybe you need to get on lower calories? 800-900? is you do not have a lot of movement - maybe you body needs even lower calories to start losing again?

BTW: Our body can convert proteins into sugar - but it has a very hard time to convert fats into sugar. So maybe you need to change things a bit?
i.e.  making sure you do not start day with any carbs.  so - what carbs are in your coffee?  sugar? milk? change that - if you can.
and so on...
I do notice that if I get carbs in the morning - I crave carbs all day.  So I use more fat (same calories) and less carbs in the first part of the day.
i.e. I use cream (not milk) in my morning coffee.
I can't use artificial sweeteners or Sugar alcohols.
I use small amount of cream or nut butter to add to my protein shakes.
I use whole eggs and not egg whites.
I use butter instead of oil to saute my veggies or eggs (use Gee - clarified butter) and so on...

Thank you for your response Hala. I haven't journaled for months and though I tried a couple of times lately, I found it extremely boring. However, if I have to do it for a while to get to the bottom of this I will do it again. It's true that most of the carbs I eat are at breakfast (coffee, rusks) but I sort of thought that would be better because I'd have all day to burn them. They are so few anyway that I don't get a carb craving. I also eat whole eggs - HATE egg whites! I do use artificial sweetner but ONLY in my coffee because I can't drink it bitter. I don't drink protein shakes, any more or rarely when I need the extra protein. I don't use much butter, I prefer olive oil.
I will try experimenting with more butter and even fewer carbs this week and see how it goes. I will cut down on the coffee too a bit- 3 cups contain most of my carbs for the day - although that's harder than you might think!
I guess journaling may also help me cut down the calories a bit so I'll try that.

Hi, Amalia.  I agree with Hala that possibly some change-up would be a good idea.

Had to go convert KG to LBS -- At 80-81 kg, you might not really be overweight, or at least not by much (depends on your height).  Are you on any anti-inflammatories?  Any meds that might cause your body to hold on to weight?

My only other thought is, salami has chemicals in it that can throw off metabolism, and you might try eliminating that, or substituting something else.  Salami often does have sugar.

Also -- reducing calories can be a good strategy.  But frankly, so can adding calories, to rev things up. Occasionally people have to eat MORE in order to start losing weight.  I'll see if I can find a link.

Interested in low-carb nutrition?  Thinking of trying Atkins? Want to try high-fat and/or high-protein eating?  Whether or not you have had (or are thinking about) WLS   http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/atkins/

Thank you for your response Whacka. Yes, maybe I do need to stir things up a little. 80 kg is too much for my height (5'2'').  Even 70 (my doctor's goal) is too much but hey, I'll take it! lol
Yes, I do take lots of meds and some of them do cause weight gain but I need them so I just have to work around that.
By "salami" I meant cold cuts of all kinds such as ham, turkey ham, beer salami etc. - all without sugar. I've been eating mostly low fat versions of these to keep the calories down. As for chemicals, who knows?
If I could walk I'd try the eating more strategy. Being wheelchair bound I'm afraid to do this. Anyway, my stomach is too small to hold MORE food unless I start eating carbs again (which I refuse to!) Thank you for your offer to do research on my problem, I appreciate it.
