Getting started? Carb detox?

How do I get started with the low carb lifestyle? (notice I am not calling it a diet, because IMO diets fail and this is a lifestyle change!)  I have been eating every kind of carb and too much of it like pretzels, wheat crackers, potatoes, pasta, pizza and I need to stop, now!!
thanks for your help!!

Just stop doing most starchy carbs.  For me - the 5DPT is a good way.     I also avoid milk - major carb issue for me.

Hi Liz -

There are a lot of good books available on low-carb eating. Personally I just picked up the
New Atkins for a New You and am following that... it explains everything you'll need to get started and it's a very handy "how to" book!

Welcome!

Hala referenced the Five Day Pouch Test, which is effective for some who need to smack themselves back into basics --

Personally, my best strategy is to spend three days pretty much gorging on high-fat, high-protein foods, and keeping my carbohydrates REALLY REALLY low.   Read up on the "getting started" links from the stickied threads, for information and motivation.

If you mess up with a mouthful, a meal, or a day -- what's really great is that you can get yourself right-started all over again with the very next bite.  This is a very, VERY forgiving way of eating!

i started by going to atkins.com and signed up for the free getting started gift.  Two booklets one on how to start the other a meal plan/menu type booklet.   There is great info on the site too.   The best thing about all of this for me is for the first time in my life i'm not starving all the time.   I'm so glad i started doing this.  Good luck,  its really not hard at all,  at least for me  :o) Jeani
