Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
How Has Low-Carbing Worked for You, So Far This Year?
LessieBelle posted, yesterday, that she had lost 11 pounds in this round of Atkins-ing, and that she's feeling better, to boot. I appreciated seeing that.
This group has been around for not-quite two months, and I was wondering how the low-carb way of eating has impacted each of you in that time. So, I'm generating a few questions and would love to hear from our members:
1) How well have you modified your way of eating to the low-carb/Atkins profile?
2) Have you experienced any weight change, and how?
3) How are you feeling, now that you're eating a different way?
4) What impact, if any, does this way of eating have on your family?

1. I've mostly cleared the cabinets and refrigerator at home of carby temptations, though occasionally some slips in. I dove into the remaining strawberry jam last week, to my surprise, though it's not usually appealing to me, so that had to be replaced with something I don't like. I'm not perfectly low-carb, but then I'm also pretty close to goal weight, so not beatng myself up about it. Occasionally there are treats at work (pizza, birthday cake) but those aren't too much of a problem.
2) Since starting this group, I've lost 13 pounds -- mostly autumn-holiday fat that I accumulated during my own personal anything-goes phase. Now I'm lucky if I lose 1-2 pounds a month, but since it's goin in the right direction, I'm happy. Only about eight pounds until I'm at goal anyway!
3) I'm feeling great! The only time I feel icky is if I'm going off of wagon, and then I'm not only lethargic but gassy, bleh!
4) My family is gradually changing its eating habits, simply because the crud is generally not around. So they're doing better too. It's taken a few years, but my kids have lost a total of 165 pounds in the last two years -- mostly because Mom now cooks a different way! So their habits are improving, too. (Even the dog lost 15 pounds!)

WOW! So proud of you! It really is up to whomever is doing the shopping to ensure that carby SHTUFF doesn't make it in the house. Then, if it does, it is really up to us to avoid it. I passed on Toll House cookies the other night, but my gosh they smelled so good.
Congrats on your loss of 13 pounds - woo hoo! I guess we all went to that "anything goes phase" hmmm????
I haven't had a free for all since I started, so I really don't want to try - thank God. Thankfully I am one of those who after WL surgery I am affected by the bad stuff - bread, potatoes, pasta, and rice - pretty much **** off my pouch. YEAH!
Also, congrats on changing your family's eating habits and the kids losing weight - FANTASTIC!
I sometimes still cook something for them and I just eat something else, but sometimes dinner just happens to be low carb - hmm, wonder how that happened.

1) I have kept the carb things pretty much out of the house xcept for things for Dh lunch, etc. I do all the shopping and we don't have kids so it isn't hard to avoid a lot of it.
Dh wanted to lose a few also so he is ok with whatever I cook. he has said he has been enjoying the variety in our menus as I am always trying out new low carb recipes.
2) I have lost about .5 # but I was able to decarb successfully on my modified plan. some days I go real low and some not so much but the scale is moving in the right direction again, instead of baouncing a couple of pounds back and forth.
3)I definately feel better more like the way I felt the first 6 months post op when I was very well carb cleansed and eating only high fiber carbs, beans, etc and no junk.
4) See # The most time it is an issue is when we go to DD's house. they eat very high carb since they do WW and it is a different thing. I always have "my" food that I bring but it is more temptation and the DGS's eat healthy snacks but they usually aren't on my plan and are a temptation.
DD tries to modify as much as she can but they are picky about what they eat anyway so...(shrug) we do the best we can.

I am recommited to the low carb life style.
In first week my weight just stayed the same... but suddenly I dropped 3 lbs.. I can't complain.
I may choose to drop a few more.. 3-5, but no more than that. My fat naturally filled in some of my rinkles, and my butt got rounder. As long as my belly is flat - or semi flat - i have no issue with the other 10 lbs i regained from my lowest weight (the low weight did not look that good on me - sunken cheeks, tired all the time... etc).
I also plan to start my yoga again.
In the past I incread the carb hopping that that may help me with my RH. But it did not. That why i was not really concerned with a regain. Was trying to see if a few extra lbs would help with the RH. No, they did not.
So now i wantto lose a few lbs, but not too many. And the low carb life style keeps my BS most stable, and I do not get very hungry. So I can eat on a schedule, and choose good foods. .

Omigosh, you are totally singing my song, here.
Unless I'm planning massive reconstructive surgery -- face lift, breast lift, butt lift, etc -- and I'm not planning ANYTHING -- then I find I really need those extra ten pounds, too. I had been aiming for another eight pound loss, but I'm realizing that as long as I look good both in my clothes and out of 'em, there's a serious disadvantage to losing any more weight.
I'm totally into low-carb feasting, but really not very i nterested in losing more weight!

As a pre-op, I've found that going low-carb has been a good way to break old patterns and learn new ones.
1. I've gone from an almost all-carb diet to a very low-carb one. I slipped a few times last week, but I'm working on not beating myself up and remembering that this a new way of life, not a "diet".
2. Since I began, I've lost about 11 lbs. Of course, when you're MO it's hard to see it, but I can say that my pants are less tight in the waist :)
3. ENERGY! Oh my goodness, I have so much more energy! My skin looks better, too.
4. My husband and daughter have been blessed with the ability to eat anything and stay slender, so they have been fending for themselves. However, they both make an effort to not eat high carb/high caloric foods in front of me, which I appreciate.
By watching my carb intake carefully, I found that I need to stay at or below 20 carbs a day to see weight loss. That's been a little difficult, but I'm slowly putting the pieces together.

Here's my report since I just weighed in at Weigh****chers. I basically didn't lose a pound in November and December. Started Low Carb on January 10th and I'm down 6 pounds since starting. After being in that long long plateau, I feel like things are moving for me again.
I'm finding that I'm doing better the last two weeks and the change that I've made is to eat less meat/cheese and adding in more greek yogurt, veggies and berries. I'm eating more carbs but they seem to be fueling me just fine. I'm also getting in more exercise with my back injury healing.
I was feeling good until the last week when my Sleevie is not happy. I think it would be even more unhappy if I were eating the white stuff.
My family is great with it since he's in Manhattan and I'm on the opposite coast. :)

Oy, I loved the support at WW meetings, but I used their plan to "diet" my way up to 315 pounds. Grrrrrrrrr ..... but like the camaraderie!!!
Hope your Sleevie's feeling better!

I have a fantastic WW leader. I actually rejoined last fall when i saw that he's now doing 1 meeting a week and it's less than a mile walk from my house. I like him because he always deals with the head/heart/stomach connection and why we eat when we do. What are we really eating about. Perfect. I wi**** was a morning meeting but 6pm on Monday night works well for me.
I'm not really following their plan per se, I use myfitnesspal to track protein etc, but I'm thinking of switching over to a low carb version of their new plan when I get closer to goal.
Sleevie still sick. Threw up last two days, even simple things like chicken breast. Last night I ate chinese soup with a few wontons. Not low carb but it stayed down. I really wanted cream of wheat but didn't go there... nope, not me.
