Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
XP: From VSG forum
I started Atkins on 1/10/2011 and really took my carbs low, between 5 and 15 a day. Total carbs, not net. Last week I started adding a few berries and more veggies. I've been eating a lot more fish (salmon and tilapia) as well as shrimp done in butter with meyer lemon juice.
Last night i took 1/2 cup of Trader Joe's organic broccoli slaw, and threw it into the shrimp mix. What a great stir fry type thing it was and very low carb/high fiber.
Sunday night I had a marinated salmon filet from costco, well three ounces of it, but on the side had fresh organic green beans done with toasted sliced almonds. What a treat it was.
Each of those dinner was followed by 5-10 red raspberries.
It felt like such a treat to see those colors on my plate. I can so relate to getting bored of hardboiled eggs, chicken, pork chops etc. Try accessorizing your plate with some good healthy carbs. It also is amazing for the digestive track. Good luck and do come by the low carb group to see the daily CAR (carb accountability report) to see what everyone is eating.

Hi Lee,
Thanks for sharing your menu. I'm wondering how keeping your carbs between 5 and15 grams a day is affecting your weight loss. I've kept mine below 20 consistently, and have not seen any loss for weeks, and I'm only 2 1/2 months out from surgery! I'm starting to feel like this isn't going to work for me. I know my ticker reflects a 34 lb. loss since surgery, but I bounce up and down 5 lbs. and right now am at 255. It's making me wonder if I had the right surgery for me. I'm going to take my carbs down even lower like you have and see if that helps. Thanks!

Hi Kate,
Relax is my best advice. I lost well during the first month, then only 3 pounds the second month. I've been a very slow loser but as you can see, I'm getting there a few ounces at a time.
Why don't you join in on the daily CAR thread and write exactly what you're eating, vitamins, fluids, exercise etc. Then we can see if there's suggestions we can make to help you.
Are you sticking to protein first and filling up on that? At your stage I was eating pretty much all protein. My plan calls for eating 3x a day, protein first, then a bite of veggies or fruit. Write us the amounts of things. I weigh and measure all my food so that I know what's going into me.
Put your food into myfitnesspal .com (free) so that you get the breakdown of calories/carbs/protein because those tricky little carbs sneak in. Are you eating chewy calcium or gummy vitamins? All carb laden.
Again, relax because you're going to be svelte before you know it! :)

Thanks Lee, I do need to relax.
Good idea to check the vits. I take a chewable multi 1 x day and that has 2g. carb, from sorbitol it looks like. My chewable calcium has 1g. per tablet and I usually just manage to get in 2 of those per day. Those carbs come from sugar. So though the carbs are pretty low, the sugar may be causing a problem. I don't know.
Most of my carbs come from dairy. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and regular cheese. Occasionally some lettuce or a few berries or some salsa. I've decided to cut the dairy for awhile and just eat meat and eggs, and I definitely need to work on my water intake. Thanks for the ideas, and I will start checking in with the daily CAR too.

Lee, what a great thing to do, thank you!
