Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Hi there. I just joined this group.
Hello there....I am happy to have found this group.
My history is RNY in 2005, a weight loss of 253 pounds, then a 60 pound regain in 2009-10. I attribute my gain to monster cravings , exacerbated by slowly adding simple carbs to my diet.
I take full responsibility for my gain, but the role of carbs, for me, could not be minimized. They made me crazy, obsessed and thinking about food 24 hours a day.
Since November 2010, I have changed my eating significantly. My staples are now egg whites, fish, greek nonfat yogurt and protein shakes. I get healthy, monounsaturated fats. Sort of a modified Atkins plan, but works for me. I "accessorize" with non starchy veggies and one fruit a day. I cannot tolerate beef, chicken or pork very well, never could since the surgery, but I hope to add some of those items back someday.
The result is that I am back on track, having lost 50 of the 60 pounds regained.
The most significant change, however, is my intense cravings are gone!!!!!! I am able to eat 3-4 small meals a day and be satisfied. I am not thinking about food all the time, but that is a work in progress.
I know my eating plan is a bit different than many of you, but the reduction of carbs is the most significant and positive change.
I look forward to hearing your successes too.
Thanks,
Pam

Wow, Pam, what an accomplishment! To lose fifty pounds using healthy eating, when you are probably very close to ideal weight, is a very big deal, and we all applaud you!!!! Very impressive!
You must be feeling great, too. Most of us (not all, but most) are here trying to do something similar, and we look forward to having your voice in ths mix! Hope you will be able to add plenty of good advice and support to others who are trying to do as you have done!
BRAVO!!!!

Interested in low-carb nutrition? Thinking of trying Atkins? Want to try high-fat and/or high-protein eating? Whether or not you have had (or are thinking about) WLS http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/atkins/
Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcome and encouragement. It's really nice to read your posts, the good and the challenges too.
It's not all rainbows and moonbeams, but life is definitely better without the carb monster controling our every move in life. For those of us who are sensitive, it can make a marked difference in the quality of our lives.
Thanks for being here. It means so much to me....
