Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Low Carb Product Reviews
I live alone and I don't want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so I always want to prepare things that will be for several meals. I'm a fan of Costco and they're starting to get in more products that are organic or meat raised with less hormones etc.
Here's my current favorite.
Harris Ranch - All Natural Homestyle Beef Pot Roast with Savory Gravy - $4.99 a pound (I think)
No added hormones, No antibiotics Fed or Administered
All Vegetarian Diet
This comes fully cooked. I stick it in the microwave for 5 minutes, cool 2 minutes and slice. Can also be done on the stovetop or Ho****er bath. If you like rare beef, be careful not to overcook.
I sometimes add a spoon of sour cream or horseradish to my bowl to change the flavor a bit without adding many carbs. It's great with a few green beans added to my bowl.
5 oz serving of meat and gravy
Calories 210
Fat 8
Sodium 380 (less than most prepared meals)
Carbs 2
Fiber 0
Protein 29

Thank you for posting this! And let's be honest, just about any main dish is improved with the addition of sour cream and horseradish!!!!
Interested in low-carb nutrition? Thinking of trying Atkins? Want to try high-fat and/or high-protein eating? Whether or not you have had (or are thinking about) WLS http://www.obesityhelp.com/group/atkins/
I too l live alone, so the ability of a dish to be reheated is key for me. I do like to cook, but I'll make just two main dishes on the weekend and reheat all week. I'm looking for good salad dressings though.
I tried the Walden Farms Raspberry Vinegrette dressing. It has zero carbs, calories, everything--which is kind of scary. I didn't expect too much from it as it strikes me as more of a science experiement than food. But it is okay. Thicker than a true vinegrette, but still thinner than a ranch type dressing. The flavor is a touch sweet and sour, but not strong. If you take salad to work, it will most likely be pooled at the bottom by the time it is lunch. But it does coat the lettuce if you give the plastic container a good shake before eating. It is a touch expensive, I think close to $3 a bottle. But it is convenient. I'd give it a 3 out of 5. Not nasty, not great, convenient, edible, overall okay.
I'd like to read other people's opinion of the other Walden Farms dressings.

Hi Sally,
I've never been a Walden Farms fan. For salad dressing I prefer a good blue cheese dressing or a vinegar and oil with a touch of lemon juice for tartness. At this point of induction I'm not eating salad so I'm not a great help to you.
The only Walden product that I buy is their BBQ sauce. I think it's $5 a bottle but a little goes a long way. I used to mix it with a little mayo to create something to dip burgers into. I haven't had it in a long time, so I think I'll put it on my shopping list.

I've used Walden Farms dressings in the past, but now that I'm not conting calories, I just use regular dressings that are low in carbs.
If you read the ingredients, it's really not that scary - mostly water, vinegar, and Splenda.
I LOVE Walden Farms pancake syrup. It's the only sugar free maple syrup I've found that does NOT have any sugar alcohols, and it tastes really good!
They also make a marshmallow dip that is pretty good, especially when mixed with natural peanut butter.
I also have their bbq sauces, and they're not bad, but I find I prefer the Kraft original light bbq sauce, and then I just mix it with mayo or ranch to sort of extend it.

I haven't gotten around to trying it yet but some folks fry queso blanco and eat it like french toast.
