Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Slow but good start
I've been doing Atkins induction for a couple of weeks now--with some failures--and have lost four pounds. Definitely not the "up to 15 lbs." touted on the book. Well, yes, I guess I'm there in the "up to." But still, it is four pounds without being a huge deprivation type of ordeal. I did have dessert a couple of times at restaurants (after low carb entree) and popcorn at the movies. So actually, I'm rather pleased with how well it works with my lifestyle. And that is rather important to me right now. I need to find a way to eat that I am comfortable with, that allows me to have my special occassions but still keeps things healthy overall.
It is interesting to find how much difference so few pounds makes after a lifetime of thinking in terms of losing 50, 100, 150+ pounds.
I think I will be doing a low-carb diet for some time now.

Hi Sally,
It sounds like you've found what's working for you. Bravo! Reading OH, there are a million different ways that people eat and different surgeon plans, but you've carved out what works for you.
You're so right about a lifetime of thinking in terms of 100 pounds and now this all seems so attainable to me. I started back to low carb on Monday and I'm already seeing a happier number on my scale.
Have a fun weekend!

Sounds like you're doing great! Sure, "up to 15 pounds" sounds promising, but how many ACTUALLY hit 15? I'm guessing it's not a large percentage ;)
And I am right there with you when you say, "It is interesting to find how much difference so few pounds makes after a lifetime of thinking in terms of losing 50, 100, 150+ pounds."
I just mentioned to a friend today that I haven't seen in a long time that it's amazing to me how I lost 50-60 pounds from my highest before I dropped even a single pant size, but now, I lose maybe 8-10, and people notice and ask if I've lost weight. And I now have less than 40 pounds to my original goal. I've NEVER had "only" 40 pounds to lose. It really is a whole new way of thinking.

Hi there Sally!
Congratulations on shedding those four pounds! What I have found -- maybe it's the same for you -- but it seems that the amount of difficulty the first few weeks, as well as the amount of weight shed, has a lot to do with how far-off-the-rails I'd been beforehand. When I started Atkins-ing in December, I had been on a five-month holiday carb binge, so I lost a great deal of weight, but wow did I feel awful!
Four pounds in two weeks -- This is great! I'm guessing that the 15-pound folks are mostly very overweight and tall MEN (grrrrrrrrrr). I know that my husband dropped five pounds last week, just because he was home and there was no soda!
You're doing great!
