Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
MSW - Macro Nutrient Calculator
I'm not 'typical' if there really is such a thing. I also struggle. Under 1000 calories would send me into starvation mode. I find 1100 minimum and 50% fat is my best bet. Low carb always of course.
I use the Mifflin-St Jeor formula because it gives the lowest calorie number. I also use five to ten pounds below my current weight to figure my calorie needs. I love the option to select a formula.
With my bum metabolism the calories in calories out math doesn't work for me. That 3,500 calories trimmed equals a pound of fat would put me under 80 lbs by now. I have spurts of rapid uncontrollable weight gain even five weeks after wls.
Unfortunately its a complex metabolic issue no wls can fix. Thankfully I have a surgeon that understands this and never blamed me for my weight gain. He assured me I would make goal and he was right. It took me a lot longer than most and I still gain rapidly and have to fight to loose each pound again and again and again...

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
This week I have eaten considerably more calories from bacon, cheese etc and this is the first week in a long time that the scale is moving in a positive direction. Calories in-calories out has never worked for me either. I too have had metabolic problems. I was started on thyroid meds in August but haven't seen much difference in how I feel. I think that I'm really going to experience a difference when I switch to fat burning once the carb detox is over.

My new endocrinologist told me that thyroid does not account much for a obesity and persistant weight gain but it really screws with your weight loss. We're working on my dosage/ type of meds but no help with the weight loss or weight gain.
The increased fats was something I came accross accidentally researching ketogenic diets. Better results with bacon and cheese would support theies I came accross.
Recently, low carb plus a higher fat ratio has helped the weight loss some. The hormonal issues still leave me feling like crap. Fingers crossed, this month I've switched to natural from synthetic t3/t4. Natural has helped in the past. Synthetic is like I'm taking nothing at all.
I sustained a back injury in October and had to cut down to short walks. Hopefully that's healing and I can get back to more than 3 mile walks in the near future.
My scale is starting to move this week. Interesting what you wrote because I think I've had bacon everyday this week. I haven't worried much about the calories but do keep my carbs under 20. Maybe the high fat and low carb is what it takes for me. I'll be interested to see what my cholesterol readings are in February when I get my 1 year labs drawn. My surgeon took me off Zocor the day of my surgery. (cholesterol is heritary high, went even higher when I was raw vegan for a few years, comes down on high protein/high fat)
Let us know how you do with the Natural hormones. I'm taking synthetic because I think that's all Kaiser offers.

I hope synthetic can work for me because should I ever have to change docs it would be easier. However, two weeks on natural and I'm starting to feel a little better.
Interesting how your cholesterol has respoded. We've been told the opposit for so long. Just shows what a mystery metabolism still is.
