Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Measuring Up: Do you weight/measure food for accountability?
Yesterday I switched from coffee-ing up with full cream, to my personal favorite -- evaporated whole milk. But I'm still trying to keep track so that I don't overdo on the CARBS so I dug out my measuring spoons to get a grip on exactly what a serving is (two tablespoons).
I almost never do this. I've had the same set of measuring spoons for thirty years or more, and hardly ever know where it is. BUT I find it very useful now and then, because I also find myself creeping up on my serving sizes. For instance, I had been guessing that a serving of two tablespoons was nearly TWICE what it actually is!
Now when it comes to counting, I'm aces! Just keep track on thedailyplate.com and all is well for me if I'm just counting pieces ... But counting quantity, and I tend to mess up.
So I want to know -- Anyone else here actually measure or weigh stuff before eating it, whether habitually or just now and then?
FWIW, I hardly ever measure when cooking, and I'm a good cook (but not great). My best friend who is a rocket engineer habitually DOES measure, and she is a phenomenal cook. So there may be something to it!

No - I don't measure and I should. I really don't know how much I'm eating anymore and I don't have a good "eye" for measurements. Its something I need to do again - mainly so I KNOW how much I'm eating!

I often measure things with carbs. I estimate when it comes to meats and cheeses and such, but, for example, I weigh out serving sizes of almonds using my kitchen scale.
Always. At a minimum I will record the item and size like 1 medium chicken drumstick, meat and skin.
I live by my food scale amd measuring utensils. I only measure cooking when I plan to calculate the nutritional facts. An example would be an experimental lc cake brownie with protein I'm working on. In general, weighing my portion after cooking is good enough.

LV'N MY RNY. WORKING FOR ME BECAUSE I WORK FOR IT.
Throughout my weight loss phase (I lost 120 lbs) I didn't weigh or measure anything. If the carbs were easy to count I counted them, if they weren't easy to count I didn't.
I'm trying to get a handle on carbs now that I am in the maintenance phase of my journey because I let carbs take over my diet between Halloween and New Years.
So I have been measuring when I've needed to. I don't have a scale so I'm not weighing.
I think portion size can get out of control very very easily so I am being mindful of that.
I am not doing Atkins, I am doing a "back to basics" plan where I try to keep my carbs fewer than 75 per day and my protein over 200. I also count my fluid intake from time to time to make sure I am keeping at near a gallon of water per day.
