Atkins and Low Carb Weight Loss
Which Low-Carb Program Appeals to You, and Why?
Low carb is the only way I can loose weight. I am metabolicaly challenged even gaining weight during my "honeymoon" post op period while sticking to plan. Low carb helps control this as best as it can be controlled.
I started out with the very severe Stillman Diet for teens back in the 70's. I maintained my original wls goal weight by going back to it whenever I gained more than three pounds. Just like the book says. Then I started eating carbs; thus obesity.
Atkins is more flexible than Stillman and the latter's books are also out of print. Dr Stillman fell out of favor after he died of a heart attack. However, he was fat, old and sick with heart trouble when he created his high protein, low carb, low fat diet to extend his own life expectancy.
Right now I'm working to get 10 lbs below my personal goal (23 lbs below my wls goal). Low carb is the only chance I have of making that happen. Even my wl surgeon's plan did not work for me and it is low carb. I had to create my own ketogenic diet to reach goal.
So here I am. Low carb for life. Its either low carb living or an over weight me.

I don't follow a specific plan that has a name or a book. I just limit my carbs, never limit my fat, and focus on protein first. Looking back at my tracked menus, this results in percent of calories coming from fat/protein/carbs at about 60/30/10.
Of course, I can't say I've been successful in maintaining those ratios for about 3 days now...need to get through the holidays and back to my normal routine.
Oh, and I'm trying to actually increase the fat a bit. I've ordered coconut oil as a start, and I will be incresing the fat in my protein shakes via heavy cream. I find I'm not reaching my calorie goals, so adding fat will help with that as well.
