Toasted Seaweed, anyone?

Trader Joe's Seaweed Snacks

Know how sometimes, you just need a cracker?  You're about to eat some cheese, or tuna salad, or peanut butter, or artichoke spread, or cream cheese, or .... something savory and delicious ....

B
ut let's face it, these things cry out for crackers!  And crackers have carbs.  Slider carbs.  And unfortunately for me, I don't happen to dump on crackers.  Theoretically, I could resume a whole new super morbidly obese lifestyle with just Ritz and Cheez-Its (especially the Duos -- Mmmmm)

Well, I can't let myself dive into the crackers.  That would be suicide.  But fortunately, there's
TRADER JOE'S ROASTED SEAWEED SNACKS!!!!

Only 30 calories in the whole package, and absolutely no net carbohydrates whatsoever:

The thin, crispy leaves have just enough mass to support PB, gorgonzola, or tuna with lots of mayo .,.. making it a satisfactory cracker substitute.  And even if you go completely wild, hey -- it's only 30 calories!!!

Now the only trick is to escape from Trader Joe's without buying the Dunkers ......

Oooh, those look terrific...I need to go to TJ's in the morning and these will definitely be in my cart!!!

I love the shrimp stir fry (sorry no pic) that's in the frozen section - good protein, minimal carbs.

Some of you may already know about these, but one of my go to foods is Shritake Noodles. They can take a bit of work to get the hang of them, but once you do it is a great substitute for the real thing.

A few things I have learned about using them...
- they stink when you open the package...that is normal and nothing a lot of rinsing doesn't take care of...I have even used a Tablespoon of vinegar in a large bow to rinse them and that seems to help.
- they take a little work to dry off, but they are better when you do! Rinse rinse ..and rinse...then dry dry and dry :-) A few paper towels do the trick.
- they are not noodles so yes...they are a bit rubbery in texture...so you do have to get past that. If you can't, these may not be for you.
- they aren't all that expensive so no biggie to try them out.

they also have little pearly ones, so if you could make a low carb custardy thing, and put the little pearls in them.. it would be like

TAPIOOCAAA!

Which is no good for me, because I will be compelled to binge on them purely because of the texture!

But, maybe someone else could handle it.  :}

I grew up eating Shiritaki noodles. My mom always rinsed them and cooked them in the sauce (like in sukiyaki). Very tasty and no stink. I am used to eating them in Japanese dishes, but until recently never tried the new shiritaki/tofu noodles. The other day I tried these:

...and I gotta say, it was really good with some marinara sauce. I bought some more and think I will try it mixed in with some stir fried meat and veggies to make a sort of yakisoba.
