Hi. I'm 3 yrs post banding and down 60-65 lbs. I realize now I made the wrong choice for my surgery type, but there's nothing to do about that now.
Anywho I've always been overweight, I was almost a 10lb baby and have been growing ever since. I've been on just about every diet known to man EXCEPT Atkins. Guess its time to try something new.

57, happily married for 21 years with a 12 year old son.
Overweight all my life, able to diet but not keep the weight off. Lost 79 pounds over 10 months with the vsg and want to lose another 30 or so pounds. Currently 225
Should be off insulin before the new year, not used a C-PAP machine for 4 months and down from 18 tablets to 3.
Tried Atkins before and came down from 480 units of insulin to 120.

Hi, I'm Beth. I had lapband 4.5 years ago. I was doing great and I love my band. I was a runner and injured myself. I had hip surgery in September and I am looking at a few more months of physical therapy. I have gained about 20 pounds and I am not proud of that. I know it is what I put in my mouth and my lack of (or not able to) exercise the way I want to. I also just gained a significant other who also had lapband. He has gained a few pounds too so, we are embarking on the low carb lifestyle together. I would like to get back down to 170 and he would like to lose 20 pounds.
I am so thankful for this lowcarb board.

Lapband - Jan 2009 weight goal reached with lapband. Revised to VSG- 1/25/16
Hello everyone my name is Heather, and I had my lap band surgery on 9/8/2010. I started at 292 and am now down to 252. I have tried Atkins in the past and was very successful with the weight loss. I chose the lap band because of volume, and would like to incorporate low carb eating. It seems to be the choice that is most successful for me when it comes to weight loss. I am a single mother of a 15 year old son and I work as a critical care nurse. I will be finished with my master's degree next year for adult nurse practitioner. Good luck to everyone and I look forward to this group!!!!!

Hi
I am almost 3 months out and have been lurking on OH for about 2 months. I am actually a revision as I had a lapband in 2004 and had it removed in 2006 with my gallbladder as it was not an effective tool for losing weight for me. I have been basically eating low carb, no sugar or processed foods since surgery, and was looking for a plan that I could follow. As I try to get all my protein in, I was get worried about the percentage of fat in my daily log. Atkins seems to fit what I need. Am looking forward to getting some useful info from this group.

Hi Everyone! I had my RNY in March of 2005. I went from 322 lbs. down to 126 lbs. in no time flat! Anyway, I have gained up to 200 lbs. again. I tried doing Atkins recently for a couple of weeks, and my energy just soared. I stopped doing it because it was so difficult to do with other family members. I'm thinking I need to get back on this. It's the only diet where I'm not starving and thinking about food all the time. I am really worried about this weight gain! Help! LOL
Hi, I had RNY in February 2009. The high test weight I have ever been is 315. I have done just about every diet known to man. I had done Phen-Phen and lost 90 pounds years ago but, I had only GAINED up to 297 when I decided on WLS. I started this Journey in 2008. By this time I was on an insulin pump and my body was so resistant to insulin, that I was taking over 120 units of insulin a day and more sometimes in addition to other medication. I was on high blood pressure meds, insulin, cholesterol pills and God knows what else. I felt horrible.
The decision to do WLS was life or death for me. In 2008 I went for evaluation to do WLS. The tests that they had me take revealed a blockage in my heart. I had a 98% blockage in one of the return vessels in my heart. They were able to open it with a stint, but I had to wait until that healed and I got the OK from the Dr. to do the surgery. Long story short...It did heal and I did have the surgery in Feb. 2009.
I am 5' 7 and got down to 171, which was not my actual goal, but I look great and feel 30 years younger. (I am 58). I was buying some size 10 pants but was comfortable in a good size 12. I weighed over 230 after the birth of my son in 1971, so this was a miracle to me! I WAS ON TOP OF THE WORLD. Then reality sat in. The weight stopped coming off as fast. I quit going to the gym as often, because my husband changed shifts and I am the primary caregiver for my mother who has had a stroke and lives with us. THEN......I started eating CRACKERS...at first every once in a while...Then more often. I started to make excuses for why I needed crackers in the house....."Mom needed to eat them" , "Husband should not have to do without them because of me"....and so on and so on. Beefier long, I was going to the gym (when I could) and stopping by the corner gas station and getting me a package of 'cheese crackers" to eat on the way home once in a while...Then just about every day. I would eat these instead of nutritional breakfast or a protein shake like I used to do.
The old habits were back and I had no control over it. For the first time in my life, I was understanding my food addiction. Until weight loss surgery, I had never in my life detoxed my body totally from sugar and carbs. The surgery had MADE me do it, and when I put the old food back in my mouth, I was addicted again!. The draw was more powerful than I can explain, except to another addict. It was like what I would think a meth or cocaine addict would feel. I have the utmost sympathy for addicts now. I get it. FINALLY~!
Thank goodness, I only gained 15 pounds before I had this epiphany. I have lost 4 pounds since I stopped putting this horrible "trigger food" in my mouth and got off my butt and back on the treadmill I am eating low sugar, low carb and exercising every day. I WILL NOT LET THIS DEFEAT ME~
I need the help and support from people who understand my issues with carbs. To some of us, it is poison. I have been off insulin since the day I had WLS surgery. I know that the culprit is carbs for me and the fact that my body will not function pron an over abundance of them. I also know we have to have some to live with good nutrition.
I am on board.....This is a lifelong habit that I must live in order to LIVE. Lets do it together.
THANKS FOR STARTING THIS BOARD~!
