Books:
Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes (very long, but well-researched)

Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It by Gary Taubes -- this comes out on 12/28 (although kindle might be out, which is probably why it already has reviews on Amazon) I haven't read it yet, but it's supposed to be a shorter, easier to read version of Good Calories, Bad Calories.

Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson

Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf

Robb Wolf -- This guy has a great personality and I love his podcasts.

On your recommendation I got Good Calories, Bad Calories from the library -- You're right, VERY long but VERRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYy interesting.  Sort of answered my question about how America's nutritional plan underwent a radical shift and helped us become number one in obesity by scarfing down carbohydrates!!!

Thank you for suggesting it!

I absolutely love Taubes.  I have been following his diet and to my surprise it works.  I read where he stated that you are less hungry on high fat and you know what I, personally, am,.  I have absolute zero hunger just like from when I was fresh out of surgery.  I have yet to read his book, but I read about him in the readers digest and i researched him online.  He is GREAT!  I think I may have to buy the book.  BTW I have lost several pounds since I started following his diest AND going to WW meetings and using their eTools.

Atkins Fast Fat Diet (from the Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002)

Intended for the metabolically challenged who have difficulty getting into ketosis.  I'm neither an advocate or critic.  Use, comment, or discard this information as you see fit.

What is a Fat Fast diet?
Source: http://tom.cuy.net/atkins/noframe.html#30

Dr. Atkins recommends the Fat Fast diet for hard core metabolically resistant patients. It's designed to push your metabolism into Ketosis, fast. It's a 1000-calorie a day, 90% fat diet. You divide the food into small portions, and have them at different times of the day. Dr. Atkins suggests dividing 1000 calories into five 200-calorie portions, and have it at 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and before bedtime.

SUGGESTIONS FOR 200-CALORIE PORTIONS ARE:
  • 2 oz of sour cream, containing 1 tbs. of caviar, served on 3-4 pork rinds.
  • 2 deviled egg halves, server not in the whites, but on pork rinds.
  • Graham Newbould's Pate for Royalty (2 oz.) served on the soya bread.
  • 2 oz of chicken salad made with triple the usual amount of mayo (of ham salad, egg salad, shrimp salad.)
  • 1 oz of the above in a half avocado
  • 1 oz of macadamia nuts (or walnuts, or other nuts that fit the 90% fat criteria.
  • 2.5 oz of whipped heavy cream, artificially sweetened, and with ground vanilla beans
  • 2 oz of cream cheese
WARNING! This diet is extremely hard to do. For the first day or two you may feel a bit lethargic. So think twice about doing it. It is also recommended that you not continue for over a week because it has not been tested for long-term use. If you are not having trouble losing weight on the induction, or ongoing weight loss diet, the Fat Fast is not recommended

Low Carb Diet Plans

Comparison of Low-Carb Plans

Which low-carb plan is right for me? This section is presented by our Active Low-Carber Forum members. Each plan is presented by a member who have read, and followed the plan. This should provide a more accurate summary, and more useful insight than commercial editorials. Browse through the plans to determine which plan is right for you. Please note, these are just brief presentations, and in no way should substitute the need to consult your doctor, and read the book.

The Harvey-Banting Diet, (1862)   By  Andy Davies  Banting published "Letter of Corpulence" at his own expense, to make this great new diet available to others, but he professed no medical knowledge, so the pamphlet does not contain a physiological explanation for how the diet functions. But the inquisitive mind can turn for this to his medical adviser....

The Atkins Diet (1972)  By  Andy Davies  It is wholly inappropriate to think of the Atkins Programme in terms of just one diet. The essence of the Atkins' system is to provide a series of dietary phases through which the majority will pass sequentially, as they successfully lose their excess weight. Additional diets are provided for people who ....

Protein Power (1995)  By  Natrushka   PP and PPL were written by Michael and Mary Eades, two medical doctors practicing in Colorado. In 1995, they wrote Protein Power as a guide to better health and weight loss through diet, nutrition, supplementation, and exercise. In 2000, they followed up Protein Power with Protein Power Lifeplan, which was similar but...

Schwarzbein Principle (1999)  By  Joanna, Lisa and Gypsy  After a few year of watching these patients get worse on the standard low-calorie, high-carbohydrate, low-fat, low-protein diet, she began to experiment with a lower carb way of eating. She discovered to her surprise that a diet that included red meat, butter, eggs, real cream, lots of low-carb vegetables and moderate amounts of ...

The Eskimo-style meat-only diet - Dr Blake Donaldson (1929)  By  Andy Davies  Nutritionists today would probably be highly critical of the Donaldson diet even after target weight had been achieved. This is in spite of the fact that Eskimos have lived well on this kind of diet for many thousands of years, and in spite of the year-long experiment in which two doctors ate a meat-only diet without once having any vitamin or mineral deficiency, including....

Life Without Bread (2000)  By  Stephen Byrnes, PhD, RNCP The book begins with a definition of just what low-carb nutrition really is, followed by an historical survey of the approach by various doctors and nutritionists including such luminaries as William Banting, Weston Price, Vilhjamur Stefansson, John Yudkin, and Carlton Fredericks. In Lutz and Allan's definition, the low-carb diet should include no more than 72 grams of carbohydrates a day. The rest of the diet should be made up of ....

Eat Fat, Get Thin, by Dr. Barry Groves (1999)  By  Rosebud educe your intake of refined carbs.
You can eat as much as you want of any meat, fish, poultry, cheese, cream, butter and eggs. You can eat as much as you like of green leafy vegetables: cabbage, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce, and so on. He does say that it is advisable to cut out some foods such as sugar and cereals completely, but does include small amounts in his menus. He cautions that you may need to be wary of such foods. Fruit and vegetables are permitted, just cut down on the sweeter, starchier ones.....

The Diet Cure - Dr. Julia Ross (1999)  By  Alto  She stresses that fats are not the enemy, carbohydrates are. There are other eating regimens -- to combat yeast problems, etc. -- as well as very specific guidance on supplements for a variety of ills (including cravings,....

Fat Flush Plan (2002)  By  Bloom  Emphasis is not given solely to controlling insulin production but to "Five Hidden Weight Gain Factors" being: Liver toxicity, Waterlogged tissues,Fear of eating fat, Excess insulin, Stress fat ,....

Neanderthin (1999)  By  Karen  In Ray Audette's world, there are two theories that take you down the path to health. The first is the thermodynamic view that strives to create fitness by balancing caloric intake with output, limiting dietary fats and cholesterol and incorporating synthetic foods and supplements. This system is good for...

South Beach Diet (2003)  By  Monika  The diet has evolved since the writing of the book, especially regarding dairy and some common vegetables such as carrots. Even before the diet changes, the major part of the book and the recipes contradicted each other at times – the recipes seem ...

The Stone Age Diet (Eat Fat, Grow Thin) - Dr Richard Mackarness (1958)  By  Andy Davies  The Author, Richard Mackarness, was the doctor who ran Britain's first obesity and food allergy clinic. The book merges anecdotal observations from this clinic with a comprehensive review of all medical evidence throughout the world up to the mid-1970s. In the 1975 edition, this includes a ....

The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet (1991)  By  Sandy  According to the Heller's research, many carbohydrate addicts produce too much insulin. This excess insulin creates hunger and causes the body to store fat. This program is designed to reduce hunger and carbohydrate cravings - thus achieving weight loss - by controlling ......

Your Fat Can Make You Thin Dr. Calvin Ezrin (1999) By  Eebee  Serotonin is the most important neurotransmitter in the regulation of appetite and sleep. Carbohydrate, by stimulating insulin production, can boost serotonin levels, but only temporarily. Deficiency of serotonin causes ...

The Insulin Resistance Diet (2001) By  Scarlet  According to the authors, it is not carbohydrates that cause weight gain, but lack of protein and an excess of carbohydrates consumed in one sitting. Therefore, the authors recommend that carbs and protein be consumed in the ratio  ...

The Go-Diet (1999)  By  Eebee   The authors tell us that they are clinicians who became frustrated that the advice they were offering their patients on weight loss was not working. They undertook an in depth review of the scientific literature on weight loss as well as looking at all the popular diets. The aim was...

Sugar Busters (1995)  By  Rosebud “cut sugar to trim fat." Modulating insulin is the key to the SUGAR BUSTERS! diet. The authors explain that by controlling the intake of sugar, insulin secretion can be controlled. They state that carbohydrates in an unrefined form, such as fruits, green vegetables, dried beans and whole grains require further digestive alteration before absorption, thus modulating insulin secretion. The end result is lower average insulin levels and less fat synthesis, storage and weight gain.

I came accross this e-book for a ready made low carb ketogenic diet in my never ending research for the cause of my rapid weight gaining sprees.  Those *****gularly read my *****ing & moaning know what I'm talking about.  Those who don't, trust me you don't want to get me started.

Anyhoo, I just skimmed it but this is a low carb diet.  It gives you an eating plan for one month.  While it is not intended for wls folks, we should be able to adopt it for our personal needs.

I'm assuming of course you are far out enough to understand your requirements and make adjustments.  Contact your surgeon's practice or nutritionist if you need to.  Be sure to always conform to the nutritional requirements of your specific procedure when eating low carb or on any other plan.
