Thank you so much for posting the hints.  I am preparing for lapband surgery and anticipate an end of summer date.  I am taking your suggestions to heart.

Do you know if there are any support groups in Plattsburgh?  It would be great to be able to talk with other weight loss surgery people.

Thanks  again.

2. Make sure you do whatever you can to get the protein intake that is required for your type of surgery. Protein from food is the longest lasting best protein, but in the beginning thats not an option. Suppliment your intake with protein shakes and in the end you will probably be getting most , if not all, of your protein from meats and vegetable sources of protein.

3. Chewing food slowly and completely will help minimize things getting "Stuck". Food that blocks the exit from your pouch can cause you to bring up what was put in after it became stuck. This is part of the process for everyone and does not mean things are wrong. It is always good to consult with the doctors if you are worried, but getting something "stuck" happens to most folks and it is a pain, it is part of the learning process with your new pouch.

4. This should probably be closer to top. I suggest that whatever surgery you have, you should prepare your home in advance. Things you would have to bend to get will be difficult, if not impossible to get right after surgery With my lapriscopic RNY, it was very painful to bend and it doesnt help you at all to put yourself in so much pain. Anything more than 5 pounds is out of the question for a while, so you don't chance a hernia at surgery sites. Preparing your home for your return will significantly help you manage pain and recover a little easier in my experience.

Well, my journey with AMC has come to an end despite the fact that my pouch is stretched, despite the struggle I am having to lose weight-however-they offered me to be able to participate in a meal replacement program....sorry but no thanks-I already have the tool I just wanted it fixed and they pretty much said good luck and sent me on my way which I completely did not expect-I thought for sure they would help me!!!!!I am devastated, so disappointed-all I do is cry.......

Hello everyone, I first went to the informational meeting the end of Sept. 09. With the hopes of lap band.  I have been to AMC every month since then.  I have changed my mind to a RNY.  Dr. Hixon okay'ed me to have surgery on 4/13/10, and things were suppose to be forwarded to my insurence company.  My company called me about  double reinbursement or something like that. I was excited and asked if all my preauthorization stuff was there and cleared.  They have nothing there.  I was so upset I cried.  Then she said they have up to 45 days to clear me.  so now I am just here disapointed.  But thanks for the add :)

SInce the goal of the boards is to help people, I feel it would be good to add a helpful tip that you have learned through your experience. This is to help folks deciding what to do or the ones who are getting ready for their surgery. :)

1. Learn the most you can about the choices for surgery. Read everything you can and become informed. The more you know, the better you are prepared for what will happen after. Use any information you get during your research to ask questions at your visits to AMC.

maybe we can get this as a sticky if we can get enough good feedback. :)

Topic: Added Links
If you find any nice tidbits of info that you think would benefit others, please submit a link in the links section. It will be here for anyone who signs up/signs in and no need to re-link anything :)

I have recently added several to link section, not sure anyone will see them until they are approve.

Rodney

P.S. If there is anything you would like to see a link for and can't find it anywhere, please post the question and someone will try to find the info for you.

I certainly hope you have loads of fun. It is not in my plans to go on a cruise in the next year, but it sounds like a lot of folks are gonna have a great time celebrating their new lease on life. It was great of you to let us know and I hope others are able to join in the fun.

A group of DS patients who have "met" each other through the DS forum here in OH are planning to go on a cruise next February. I know not many DSers from AMC are posting on this group, but being one myself I wanted to make sure you all at least heard about it before it was too late.  If you want more info, let me know and I will forward you the links. I am planning to go!

Best,
~ Lois ~
