Topic: I can't get into the chat room!!!
Karen and everyone,
The firewall here at work is not allowing me to access the chat room. I am soooo disappointed as I was really looking forward to this. Will future chats be held at differing times so we can maybe alleviate this problem?
Hope all is well at AMC. See you on Dec 3.
Best,
~ Lois ~

Michelle,
I can't figure it out either!! Is there anything else happening with this group yet, like chat sessions and such, or is it still in the formative stages?
Talk to you soon.

Topic: RE: VIT. D Deficiency
Michelle,
Welcome to the world of Duodenal switch :) The cold is the only side effect of the switch that I don't like either. Dr. Merkel told me long ago that for some people the cold goes away, but for others it never does, if it isn't gone by 18 months it probably will never go away. The cold is probably not from the thyroid, some of it maybe, but not all. The vitamin D thing is very common among all of the people in the north country, not just us bariatric patients, took me 4 rounds of Vitamin D mega dose to get my levels to normal. I personally take an extra 2,000iu of Vitamin D each day, it's been great ever since I started that. The hair loss is also from the surgery, takes a while to get your protein levels up to normal again and then the hair starts coming back, some of it could be from your low thyroid.
Glad to see you on our site.

Topic: VIT. D Deficiency
Hello, I am Michelle and I had the Duodenal switch Dec.30,2008. I am very pleased with my weight loss and well GREAT! But 2 weeks ago I was dx'd with hypothyroid. And with my VIT D at 17, up from 15 ( on Rx for it 50,000ui 2 times a wks from my endo) I'm feeling a little drained, hair loss, cold all the time (and my endo said it will take 8-10 wks for the 75mcg of synthroid to work fully) I am going to freeze this fall... I take all my vits and am really glad I follow the doctors orders and appt. so I know the hypothyroid is fairly new. Just seems so long for the hormone to work. Is it? Thanks Michelle
