OK, I have been wondering this for quite some time and finally decided to post about it.  If any of you have spent any time on the OH boards, you have probably heard a mention of or seen posts from Vitalady.  She is a post op RNY patient who went into business selling nutritional supplements for bariatric patients.  Anyway, her suggested vitamin and supplement regimen is vastly more involved than the one I was given in my discharge instructions.  I don't mind that, don't get me wrong, but there are those on the boards, especially those who are DS patients who SWEAR by her regimen.

Here it is, copied and pasted from an OH post.

Schedule:

AM:                2 Vitamin C

2 Polysaccharide Iron or 12 Tender Iron  (or 1 Poly & 6 Tender Iron)

                        2 Calcium

                        1 B-Complex

                        1 Vitamin E

                        1 Multi-Vitamin

Topic: RE: After the Holidays-Getting Back on Track
Like many folks I had more food during the holiday than usual, but I also moderated the amount so it didnt add to my weight. I focus all the time on positive choices for food and have worked so hard to get where I am that I have the tools in place for a little....little bit of excess when it is "necessary" :)   During the holidays, which I have more of then most becasue I am Heathen, I try to moderate my carbs to minimal level during my meals so that i have some extra calories for goodies. I am not talking sugary sweets or anything, cuz nobody wants/likes dumping syndrome, but i am talking about an extra deviled egg or some stuffing or a little more macaroni salad. I still dont eat to extremes and I will have some bites here and there between meals, but in the end my calories are acceptable and I wasn't over doing it for days, just a couple hours during the festivities. :)

When I am at home I like to use the Wii Fit. It offers a wide variety of exercises at low body stress values. I usually do about thirty minutes of Aerobic exercises and about 10 minutes of balance and stretching with Yoga.

When I eat on the run or out with friends I try to find the lowest fat products I can. I remove some extra carbs where i can (half the bun on a grilled chicken sandwich for instance) never fries, and definatley diet drinks. My friends and family will usually ask me where I would have the best choices of food when we pick restaurants and when making wise choices I can eat just about anywhere. The drinks part is easy becasue not drinking with my meal removes that choice, but when we do stop for just a drink and I have had my hydration, I get a nice diet Mt. Dew. (I still like my caffeine). :)

Topic: RE: Instantized? protein powders?

Elite Whey Protein (Instantized) Overview

What is an Instantized protein powder? Instantization is a process that reduces the particle size of powders so they mix into liquids easier. Only the better protein powders are instantized since it's an expensive process that doesn't beef up the nutritional facts panel. So, if you want an easy mixing protein powder, especially if you use shaker cups, then you definitely want an instantized protein powder.

I use Body Fortress from Wal Mart and have used several brands including GNC. I dont have any problems with them at all.

Bridget,

The post-op patients get 'Unjury' in the hospital.  You can do some research on it by going to unjury.com.  We suggest the unflavored kind.

Dont hessitate to call the office if you are looking for anything else.

Topic: Instantized? protein powders?
Hi all,

I'm looking at different protein powders, trying to find one I'd like to try and I came across Optimum Nutrition's Any Whey, but it includes the word Instantized on the label.  I looked that up and it relates to (what seems obvious, probably), the process of making dairy products into an "instant" product that can be easily reconstituted.

My question is, is this okay for post-bariatric surgery?  None of the other formulas that I've looked at have mentioned that, but I assume they are still instant...any info, or suggestions?  (Or reassurances...)

Thanks!
Bridget

Topic: Group Topics
Hello!

This is your group.  Let's get some ideas for topics that you would like to discuss...
For example: What is your indoor exercise plan?  What do you like to do outdoors in the winter?  If you are traveling, what are some tips for eating on the road?

Please let me know what you would like to discuss.

Hope everyone is well.
