Topic: How much do you walk?
How much do you walk?
My company that I work for has started an employee wellness program,
Part of the program they have provided us with a pedometer and asked us to track our steps we take each day. With a goal of 10,000 or more per day for ten weeks
I have finished three weeks of wearing my pedometer, I am proud of myself that I have increased my walking over the last three weeks
The first week I walked 50,307 steps
The second week I walked 62,089 steps
This past week I walked 90,537 steps
This brings me to a total of 202,933 stepsI have set a personal goal to increase my steps each week during the 7 weeks left in the program This week wil be hard to do that as I was not felling well on sat and only got in about 4000 steps in Maybe it is time to get my Cain out and use it more and go for walks in the park or in the mall This may not seem like an accomplishment to everyone else but you must understand that I am a couch potato to the max so much so that if the TV remote is out of reach that I would watch what was on rather than to shift position and reach the control

Topic: Please join me in this effort to bring attention to the rate of obesity
Dear friends and family
I have registered as a walker in the Walk from Obesity to be held on May 1st In Schenectady NY.
Please join me in this effort to bring attention to the rate of obesity, the challenges and discrimination that exists related to the disease of obesity
I hope to complete the one mile portion of the walk, It may kill me or may take all day but I plan on finishing the one mile walk.
I would love for all of you to come and walk with me and encourage me, should you not wish to walk with me it would be nice to see you on the side lines cheering me on.
If you are not able to make it out to walk with me or cheer me on and would like to support obesity research I have set up a place where you can make online donations to support obesity research
I have been working on the process of having weight loss surgery to help me lose weight. I plan on having the surgery over the summer

Topic: gratitude
Hi everyone - I've been missing from OH and from this group for a while and thought I would give an end of year update.
I am about 11 months out and have lost 127 lbs. My original goal was to lose 100lbs. Then I reset it to 120 lbs. I have happily exceeded this goal.
Things with which I still need help and support: As I progress closer and closer to 'normal' (my new normal) eating habits, I am more and more tempted to indulge in foods that get me into trouble - cookies, chips, etc. I know I need to stay away from these things and so far have had no real issues - but it is a red flag. I DO NOT want to return to my old habits, my old emotional state, my old physical state. I WANT to maintain this lifestyle - this gift I've given myself.
Things for which I'm grateful:
Health, family, friends (even when they make back-handed compliments), pets, job, nature...
There's a lot to be grateful for, not the least of which is my improved health - both mental and physical. My life is very different post-surgery and I have no regrets.
I actually was given the gift of Christmas spirit this year! I haven't had that in a long time.
I wish everyone health, happiness and positive support in the new year and in their weight loss journeys. Don't hesitate to contact me.

I am just starting the process at Adirondack Medical Center and I am decising between gastric bypass and lap band. I would be interested in reading about peoples experiences with both and how they liked Adirondack Medical Center. I live too far away to come to meetings regularly so I was very happy to see this site posted n Dr. Hills office as an online support group. I look ofrward to hearing from you all
Topic: Coping with the holidays
Hi everyone,
It's time to get this thing really rolling and now is a crucial time for all of us. The holidays are fast approaching, so what are you doing to combat the temptations? How are you handling the stress? Most importantly what choices are you going to make? If this is your first year, like it is mine, going through the holidays with a new stomach; what are your fears? What are your greatest temptations? If you have already been through the holidays post op; What do you do to curb your temptations? How did you handle the temptations? What advise do you have to give to those of us going through our first holiday post op?
I hope we can get a really great discussion started on this. Don't forget about support group on Monday nights 6-7 pm. Go into the group and then click on chat. You will be prompted for your name and your OH user name; click on chat and you will be part of the group chat. Tuesday night at the hopital's Redfield Room is the support group sponsored by the Bariatric Center. The discussion on 11/25 will be coping with the holidays.
