Honolulu, seriously?? In my dreams!

Anyway, I'm neither vegan nor vegetarian. However, I am an avid foodie and home-chef-extraordinaire (in my own mind and those who love me). My son, 23, is vegetarian and we frequently share recipes and cook together. I greatly value options in eating. SO glad you stared your own group!

A bit about me: I had RNY 8.5 years ago, went from 290 lbs to 120 pounds, so a  170 pound loss. AND have been easily maintaining the loss. It's a lifestyle, not a diet. I'm active in the WLS community as a support group leader and advocate.

So, hi.

LOL Yes Honolulu, born and raised here. Although I did live in TN for about 2 years. I definitely miss the prices on everything there. Hawaii is just wayyyyy too expensive.

You are doing so great with your weight loss. BIG kudos to you for that. Its definitely not easy and you are right that it is a lifestyle.

From Chicago, and I'm pre-op. Scheduled for a sleeve October 10. I've been vegetarian (yes to eggs and dairy, no to fish) since I was 14. Edited to say: that means 27 years.

I live in terror that I'll become lactose-intolerant after the surgery. Mad respect for vegans, it seems like a lot of work to get all the nutrients and I am just lazy.

Glad to see I'm not the only veg here!

Hi there! October will seem like forever but it will come. I know it felt like ages till my date came. Praying for a smooth and fast recovery for you. Keep us posted on that ok. Glad to see other veggies out there as I am still a newbie at it and would love to learn all that I can.

Revision on 05/01/14

Keyport, NJ. It's not Honolulu, but it has its charms lol.

I had rny the same date as Robo, 10/10/05, and lost 190 lbs. I stay within 5 lbs of this weight now, and am desperately hoping for plastics at this point. I had a revision this May, due to medical complications, and am now feeling so much better.

I'm not a Vegetarian at this point, although I have had periods of time where I was exclusively Veg/Vegan. I'm trying to get my family to transition over to a primarily Vegan diet. My Mother in Law lives with us, and she is the biggest holdout at this point. I remain hopeful lol

Howdy my "same date of WLS" buddy! lol My how times flies huh..... Cant believe its going to be almost 10 years since. You are doing awesome in keeping the weight off too. Not easy!

Ive had a tummy tuck like a year and half after my wls and was going to get more but the plastic surgeon had retired and he didnt refer me to anyone else when he left. So if I went and got it done myself I would have had to pay. Ive learned to live with it as mines isnt that bad.

Have your mother in law try vegan for a week maybe?

Revision on 05/01/14

I am amazed at how fast the time went by. I was 30 when I had my surgery, and within a few months, my whole life changed. I got pregnant unexpectedly, less than a year out. That was something I never expected, but I cried some happy tears when I saw that positive test. My surgeon's staff was less than thrilled, but I had a perfectly normal and healthy pregnancy, and gave birth to a teeny tiny little peanut, the following spring. I actually continued losing weight through most of my pregnancy, but regained 8 lbs at the end. My second son came along 3 years later, and although he kick started another round of weight loss, he was almost 3 lbs heavier than his brother. It's been a crazy ride, especially with my late complications, and medical need for a revision, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world.

I will probably have to go self pay for my plastics, so maybe Mexico.

I've been finding sneaky ways to slip vegan foods into the menu lol

Thats great to hear, late congrats on the lil ones ^_^

I heard about people getting complications way later and sometimes my body still does weird things that scares me. My body has been so different since surgery.. so every time I feel something weird I kind of get scared that something might be wrong. More so I worry because all the Dr.s Ive been going to are retired.

Hi, I'm from NY., still in weight loss mode. I'm not a vegetarian but was interested in the lifestyle, but hell I still like meat, even though I have cut back a lot on beef, mostly lean towards fish, chicken, eggs, some pork. Protein still mostly in the way of shakes. Glad you started your own forum, just wondering how do you get in the rt amt of protein as a vegetarian?

No one surgery is better than the other, what works for one may not work for another. T-Rebel
