Topic: New to the group!
Hi all! I'm Kristin and I am having my gastric bypass on August 1st. I am a bundle of feelings and emotions. I am looking forward to this new chapter of my life and hope to learn a lot from all or you and share what I learn along the way.
I am a kindergaten teacher in Nashville. I have many interests that include Predators hockey (season ticket holder!), travel, reading, and anything outdoors. I'm hoping that once I lose the weight, I hope to return to the hiking I love so much.

Hey Bob!  Thanks for providing a short introduction about yourself.  I look forward to hearing more about your journey and possibly meeting you at one of the onsite support groups.  All the members on this site have either went through this wonderful journey or in the process of going through this journey.  Feel free to ask questions and I will try to answer them based on my experiences or as I have been informed by the staff.  This group is here to help you understand the process and guide you through this journey.

I look forward to hearing more about you.

Topic: RE: Questions Anyone???
It depends on how booked the doctor is for the coming month(s).  I was approved in the first week in August and Dr. Williams was not available until the first part of October.  Once insurance provides the approval, then the scheduler will be calling to setup everything with you.

Also, at your intital appointment you should have received a checklist of testing and other requirements.  If all that is marked off, then you should not require additional testing unless your doctor makes a decision or needs to have additional testing for some reason.  Please make sure to keep copies of all documentation just in case something gets lost.  Also, feel free to follow up with the clinic on the status in order to make sure no additional testing or requirements need to be meet.  Be proactive because it will make things better on you and also on the staff.

The only question I have is how long does it take for surgery after the insurance approval has been recieved. Are there any further test to be completed at that point.

Thanks in advance

Wonderful question.  Remember you are having major surgery and everyone response different to surgery.  That being said, I can tell you how things were for me after surgery and some things to keep in mind.  Since you are having major surgery it is very important to blood clots are form from lack of moving of blood in your body.  Thus, it is important to move around as move as possible but continue to get rest.  There was some minor discomfort for me during the first week, however, it was mainly gas not the actual surgery.  I got up and moved around at least every 2 hours.  I would get up and move more frequently as the week went on.  Now, things have changed a little since I have had my surgery, I came home on liquid diet.  I am a firm believer in making sure that proper liquid intake is considered first then work in protein each day.  Work closely with the staff about recommended amounts of liquid and protein at certain phases of the recovery.  READ THE PACKET THE STAFF PROVIDES YOU.  Remember you have major surgery and you will feel full quickly.  It gets better each day just don't over do it.  I am sure you both will do great.  Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks
