He hates it. Part of his contract to stay as long as he is is to work Monday-Friday 8 hour day shift starting January and he got 2 weeks extra vacation last year and will this coming year too. He has never worked a straight day shift in his 34 years, they used to rotate between 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts (8 hours). The 12 hour shift is fairly new.

185 today. Digestion is slow what with travel and a new routine and location. Always throws me off. So I have high hopes when I get moving again!

I may go check out a few galleries today. And walk Kirby.

The wildlife never ceases to amaze here. Dozens of bats in the evening flying over the house and a giant tarantula moseying across the patio last evening. Beats snakes!

Not much else to report today. A lazy Sunday!

Wow, how does your DH have the energy to pull off 12 hour shifts? I do one or 2 for conferences, and I'm just destroyed for days.

I used to love to entertain, and take out whatever fine pieces I had. The last few years I've completely lost interest in doing this, and we meet friends at restaurants. I lost interest in cooking also, which was also something I enjoyed. Maybe what I lost was energy. I'm hoping after I retire I might return to things like this that once pleased me.

Cool and sunny here. After the 4th wettest summer on record, it is very dry. I am watering my flowers for now. Climate change has brought warmer autumn to Minnesota, but it can't change the shrinking amount of daylight. Even if the warmth continues, the flowers are going to drop off big time. There is just not enough daylight to sustain them. In some ways, the same with people. By November, you could recline buck naked on the frozen ground, in the weak sunlight, and you still could not produce enough vitamin D. Right now, my Vitamin D tests show I am on the very high end of normal. I suppose back in the day, that would get me through the winter. Of course, now we have supplements to ease us through the cold dark months.

I just read the play we are seeing tonight has 2 intermissions! Yikes, it starts at 7. Will I be getting home at 11 pm tonight? Possibly. I slept well last night, so hopefully that will help me tomorrow. Anyhow, ill be busy watching theater, so no time for the Sunday Scaries. And I'm taking Wednesday off for one of my million doctor appointments, so I just need to power through Monday, and Tuesday.

Time for more tea and a nice long sit with the Sunday Paper.

Officially 30 lbs. down (at least for today).

Had a rough night with storms and thunder boomers. Emma dog just doesn't do well with storms or fireworks. Finally gave her a trazodone around 2 am. Very gray day here. Rained all morning but rain finally stopped. I've been waiting for a cloudy day to head to the Botanical Gardens and get more flower pics. Today definitely qualifies. It may even be a bit too dark but I will give it a try. Chilly 62 degrees as well!

Plan on making a pasta casserole, essentially lasagna with different pasta, for dinner. Quest chips for lunch and the rest of my protein coffee from this morning that I never finished. Today is actually a perfect nap day, but I already committed myself to go take the pics. DC1 hanging out today but they are going to stay home and nap instead of joining me. I'm glad we can be a comfortable safe space for them! DH working his last 12 hour shift, has tomorrow off and then starts 12 hour nights on Tuesday.

So happy your dinner party was so well received, though I didn't have any doubts! I love to host as well!

Last night's dinner party was so wonderful. The chef is a 28-year-old woman who's been cooking for us in local restaurants and our homes for years. I so enjoyed entertaining for one of the last times here in my home. In fact, we plan to do it again next month because everyone had such a good time.

Today's agenda includes gin rummy, no mopping, a bit of laundry, reading, and cooking dinner tonight.

And in first-time-ever weight management news, I am eating a breakfast of a peanut butter and fig jam on whole wheat toast with a tall coffee spiced by a mocha protein shake. It's not bad, although I probably won't do this again for another 40 years.

Weather wise, this coming week will be cool with highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Time again to wear plaid!

Yes! What Liz said. And this coming from someone (me) who loved working and defined herself by her work accomplishments.

Happily, to everything there is a season.

Weight 118.4 according to DH's scale which needed a new battery. Not sure I believe it but per our discussion yesterday it is probably close enough.

Yesterday we spent the day at DH's home so he could get things ready for my furniture to arrive on 10/1. Can't believe the wedding and the move are coming so fast. One week from now we will be getting ready for the wedding brunch we are having at my house (DS will be cooking).

Last night we went to a restaurant we hadn't been to previously in the area - nice ambiance and meal. I especially liked that I could get a small portion. I wish more restaurants would do that. This morning we are going to our Sunday morning breakfast spot out here, then will head back to my house. I am going to start packing things in closets that are moving but won't be used in the next 9 days. Tonight is dinner out with old friends (old in both senses of the word - I have known one of them for almost 50 years and we are all old LOL).

Have a super (sunny?) Sunday!
