Greetings all
It is overcast but not raining. Started the day with scrabble. Won one and lost two. Lost to the Shark, dang it. He just gets better and better. After the I got a few things at the store and then went to the studio to make more stuff. I am so lucky to have my own little room there. For years I just sat at the big studio table which is kind of fun but now in my curmudgeon days I like having my own space. One of my Scrabble friends is going on a National Geographic tour of Mongolia! WTF no clue why he wants to do that but more power to him.
DD glad your BFF arrived safely. Liz is right that your mother may become less dramatic as she fails. Good that she is in the hospital bed. And I also think it is good for you to continue to plan your trip. No one has a crystal ball.
So I am soaking some black eyed peas to cook later. Impulse new year's purchase. I really like them but don't know what DH thinks. I will make some Jiffy corn bread in my ancient and soon to be history oven.
We watched the rest of Black Rabbit last night - staying up a little late to fini**** Compelling ending.
Liz I agree with you - no need to plan an agenda for each day. But I hate being scheduled.
Hey looks like there is Wegovy in pill form coming soon. Might get me off my behind.

Hugs to you and your family. Tough times.

Further update, my brother just texted that with the help of the fire department and hospice, they were able to get my Mom into her hospital bed. He sent a picture, and it sure looks better than her sitting in a urine soaked recliner. It has to be more comfortable, and easier to change her because they can roll her. She doesn't need to stand.
Your Mom sounds quite agitated which could signal that she is nearing the last phase of her life. Low oxygen certainly won't help that. The drama may cease as her body and mind give in. She could still have her last days in peace.

Thank you for the good thoughts.
I used to consign my clothes when I was in the big weight loss mode after surgery, so I could use the money to buy new things that fit. I think I built 3 different wardrobes during the weight loss phase of 1 year. Now I donate things of value that I am done with to St. Vincent de Paul. For me, it is a way of saying thank you to the many generous people in my life who have gifted us material things, their time, andnm their love. I think of it as releasing it into the universe to bless someone else.
I was able to pick up BFF at the airport. All tghe schools out by where my parents live were closed today, but not here in the metro, so that was a good clue the roads were okay here. Very, very dense fog, and slippery side streets, but the freeways were fine. BFF's flight left a bit before 6am and arrived here at 8:30am. A lot of flights must have been delayed or cancelled, because I was the only one in the cell phone lot, and there was no traffic in the pick up area. Felt weird, it was so empty. She is here, and taking a nap.
The situation with my Mom has not changed, except she doesn't want the pain killers now. Her oxygen drops whenever she moves ( a reading as low as 79). This is with supplemental oxygen. She can not stand, and is refusing to let anyone change her pjs or depends. She won't use her hospital bed because she says she can't breath in the bed. This makes no sense, since she could sit upright if needed, but i don't think she is, as they would say, in her right mind. Hospice offered a catheter and a lift, which she also refused. I will go tomorrow, travel out that way is not safe today.
Our trip cancellation insurance does not cover illness of a family member as reimbursable. It does if we need to attend a family funeral.
Today, as yesterday, we are continuing to prepare as though we are going on our trip. Clearly, this could change. Each day will tell us more.
I had so hoped that bringing Hospice in would ease her passing and there would be moments of peace. Instead it looks like it is heading where I always knew it would: My Mom will pass with drama and chaos. Maybe even worse than I thought. It did not have to be this way. But as DB told me last night, what is happening right now will not last. There will be an end to her suffering, and ours. Praying for some peace for all of us.
A bright spot: BFF had dinner with DD and her beau while in Boston. She thought he was awesome, and treats DD so well. And she said DD was glowing. My kids are doing fine, and that is the best feeling.

Thinking about DD and her DH and everything up in the air right now. I pray it all works out and that her Mom doesn't continue to suffer. My eldest DD had to go on IV morphine for the last week or so in Hospice. They don't usually do that but because DD's roommate was a nurse and staying home to care for her full-time, they were willing to order it. Put her out of this world for the most part but at least she wasn't in agony.
Hoping that our sick folks improve. Tough time of year!
Yesterday the only real accomplishment was accepting the china hutch and food shopping, though I did make dinner. Today we need to take the old china cabinet (very small but also very old) to the Habitat Restore. I know a lot of people take their old stuff to consignment shops but I don't really feel I need the small amount of money they are likely to generate and would rather do a donation. We also have a bocce practice at 11 am, then a call with my financial planner this afternoon. He likes to do them in January of every year to plan for the year and before he gets caught up in doing taxes.
DS arrives Friday for most of the month. DH wants me to plan an agenda for every day, but I don't feel the need. He does that with his kids though not with his sisters. I have planned dinner on Friday night, and activities/dinner on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Then we leave for 12 days for our cruise on Thursday (DS is staying here with Justice). I think we can wing it Saturday and Wednesday...
Have a transformative Tuesday!

I read about that for sinus infections. Kind of gross but effective.

Agree with Claudia - steroids may be needed.

Good that you have the insurance. I haven't typically bought it but I did for the upcoming year and probably will continue to do so after what happened with SIL in Spain last year.
