I saw the play years ago in Boston, but haven't read the book or seen the movie yet. Hmmm... maybe the book next?
Absolutely zero interest in seeing Nosferatu.

And here I am learning TODAY that "Wicked" was a book before it was a musical on Broadway. Gee, the things I don't know!
Have seen the play on Broadway, but have not seen the film yet.

My mom had a coffee table book about movies when I was a kid and the still picture from the original Nosferatu movie was in there. The terror I felt seeing that! But I'd still sneak peeks to see if it was still as horrific as the first time. It still is to this day... gah.
Slow day here today. After several puke free days, Kirby proceeded to regurgitate 3 times last night, twice on my bed requiring me to get up and remove the cover sheet. Blech. So not good sleep for me. This morning we had pancakes and bacon, then Claudia and I went to the farmers market to find eggs (none in the store yet again due to the avian flu), then to Whole-foods and Safeway for everything else on the list. A dog walk followed and I've been doing very little since. Making shrimp/veggie stirfry for dinner.
That's all from Sedona! Still unseasonably warm and sunny and still crowded as heck with visitors. Can't wait for them to go home next week!
Take care everyone!
I was talking with a client today who is friends with Tony Kushner (Angels in America, updated screenplay for Spielberg's West Side Story). My client was telling me that he ABSOLUTELY HATED the film version of Wicked. Thought it was utter crap. I asked if he had liked the stage version, but she didn't know. I'm so curious about that. I read the book in the 90s. Was not fond of the stage production because of the major story changes. I enjoyed part one of the movie much more than I did the stage production because there was more of the book included in the screenplay. I guess we all have different tastes!
As for Nosferatu, acting was indeed good (though I wasn't completely taken in by Depp's performance). Cinematography... too dark for me. I don't like having to struggle to comprehend what's on the screen. So, literally too dark, not figuratively. Hahaha. What I found clever was the mixing of the two stories: 1920s silent version of Nosferatu and Bram Stoker's Dracula.
P.S. I once had a squirrel that got inside my house! Chewed the interior phone lines. Caught it in a humane trap and released it at a lake miles away. But it was in there a couple of days and made a mess. . ds
Greetings all
It's one of those sun vs rain days here. Not raining at the gym but pouring by the time I got a mile home. And there was a fabulous rainbow. I swear it touched the ground at the end of our street1
So I did my waddling at the gym today. There seemed to be a lot of middle aged women there who were all dolled up! No clue why. Of course, thats what I did 30 years ago when I met future DH at the gym. Tee hee. And just for fun I punched the incline button one increment. Really did not make much difference.
So yesterday was all football and I invited two friends over. One brought a pizza. Two and a half games later they were still there yacking! I was picking up dishes, feeding the dogs, offering them bags etc etc - everything I could do to get them to leave. Wore me out. One is having a hard time with dementia husband so she is entitled. Oh well, got pizza at least.
Safe travels Liz. You should be almost home by now. Enjoy the warmth. Justice will.
Yes DD, perfect description of midwest weather. Fortunately there are those beautiful fall days. And I hear you on the vulnerability of empty table space. DH cannot leave any table top or shelf empty - fills it immediately. No task can be performed here without clearing other stuff first. We want to hear what you think of this"James". Huckleberry Finn was such a great book I can't imagine why people want to ban it. Or any other book for that matter. If you don't like it, don't read it.
Day 6 Ann? Tee Hee.
Dog shows at the polo grounds Peps. Sounds swank. Never been to a polo grounds. Do they clean up after the horses?
Yep Paula, indeed everyone has a story. Some more dramatic than others but all worthy.
Soup for dinner tonight. Came from Safeway but I will add extra chicken.
Must get busy on some new art projects for feature in April. Clay is not quick. Gotta plan ahead.
Sun is now out. Cheers. Diane S
AMEN!!!! We do deserve to celebrate our tenacity and undying hope (however it may waver over time)!!!!!!!!
Peps, I'm happy to hear what a good season you're in now regarding your weight. I can so relate. Heck, we all can!
When I gained weight during COVID and was for the first time in my life actually depressed (imagine this clinically extroverted recovering widow all alone on 25 acres out in the Missouri Ozark boondocks who talked to an actual human being only once a week--the young person who put my groceries in the back of my car when I drove to town to get food), I got to the point where I was doing weekly phone sessions with my therapist. That guy really got me through those rough times.
I think often about how we've agonized over our weight/dysmorphia/frustration/self-disappointments over the years. One thing that does distinguish this group is that we haven't given up. At least not yet! :-) I think we deserve to give ourselves and each other some big pats on the back. Really.

I haven't read James yet, but really look forward to it. I've read Huckleberry Finn at least three times and loved it from the get-go. I never ever misunderstood its message, even as a tween growing up in Mississippi.
I look forward to hearing what your DH and DD thought about Nosferatu.
A relative who's an actual playwright (he gets paid for his plays) went to see Nosferatu and walked out after 30 minutes. He said it sucked--not the word he used, but what he meant. However, quite a lot of folks who are paid to review movies have praised the movie's cinematography and acting.
Love your story about DD's coming-out season.

The much of the wire insulation used today is made from soy beans. Thus, the attraction!
The electrical system in my Ford Expedition was eaten by squirrels. Ford stopped using the soy insulation, but the German manufacturers have not. Still a problem in Mercedes and BMWs and Audis and Volkswagen.
